Default Battle Royale (background, read before sign up)

Okay its becoming clear that whilst a good number of us have either:

Watched the movie/read the novel/read the manga

of Battle Royale, a large number are still clueless about it, save that we're having an rpg of it. So I made this thread just to clear any confusions.

Battle Royale is a Japanese novel, later adapted into a critically acclaimed box office success film by Fukasaka, as well as a manga series. (there's another film sequel called "Battle Royale 2: Requiem", like all sequels this one sucks to no end, u should avoid it like the plague)

The story goes:

Its 2015, much of the world is in economic and social turmoil following rampant American imperialism and bombing campaigns (one of the high points in the 2nd film is in the beginning where the teacher chillingly informs his students that over 40 nations which US has nuked in the past decade)

In this time of chaos, employment rates in Japan soars to 15%, 3 million kids are reported to often boycott school each year. The government in response sets up the Battle Royale act, which states that each year, one junior high school graduate class, at random, is sent to an island, armed with weapons and forced to kill each other until only 1 remains. The main point they're pushing is "life is a game, fight to prove you're worth it".

During the class trip, the bus is taken to a point and the kids are gassed. When they wake up they find themselves with collars on their neck. It is revealed these collars are water, heat, shatter and shock proof, and is remote controlled so the people back at base can detonate it at will, killing the kid gruesomely. They will do this if the kid is caught in a danger zone or trying to escape.

After a satirical and amusing, yet at the same time blood curling instructional video, the kids are given one package with food, water, compass, map and a random weapon (anything from paper fan to shotgun, this apparently eliminates "natural advantages"). From there on they have 3 full days to kill every single one of their lifelong friends and classmates.

The Tau Online Battle Royale works in a similar vien. All that changes is the participants, and the weaponry. Players can expect some 40K trinkets... ones which will give the user a significant edge.

Of course, for those who win the Battle Royale, there is considerable prestige... not only can you officially site yourself as the hardest guy/gal on the Forums, but you can also come back next year as a "Special Student!"

Can you kill your best friend?

Thank you for making this thread! Saves alot of explaination regarding BB.

But regarding the manga, they don't have a time limit but they must kill at least one person every 24 hours, or everyne's heads flies away from their bodies.

Sha'shi, my Best friend is also not in the forum.

Note to everyone, the manga is more VIOLENT than the movie and has some pornographic scenes. Read it and it was awesome.

get it at your nearest comic book store.

Um, the movie is not anime, the movie is ....well just a movie.

I haven't seen the manga, but manga in the end is just mange. There's thousands of twisted mangas out there.

Battle Royale the movie was skillfully directed, with a few solid performances (Takeshi Kitana, the teacher of the class, was brilliant in every sense of the word)

Also, the movie is more mainstream, since its...well a movie....with real people....

Not bagging the graphic novels though, i'm just saying the movie has wider appeal so i suggest everybody to check that out first. (Althought i know that Fukasaka, a vocal anti american person, did not allow it to be aired in the US)

But their comics are always more adult oriented than western one. I know cos I grew up with manga as americans are grown up with DC and Marvel.

Read the manga, and you will say the movie is child's play.

The movie just have to make it less violent.
