How many times have we heard this? From childhood to adolecence we have the question of what we want our carrer to be as an adult, or at least I do. I really have to question wheather I will do what I want as an adult, or give up, and face a medicre job.

I suppose what I am asking is, do you guys do what you wanted to do, or somewhere did you go off the tracks?

and for those too young for jobs, what do you want to do when you grow up?

Well i want to be a poet or a musician.
But im gonna be a realist and know im not gonna make it and be stuck with a dead end job and a mediocre wife, with a life i can barely stand.

My career was not what I expected it to be- hence you might say it went off track. Still- it's pretty interesting to see where it has gone, and I can't say I'm disappointed.

After college I looked into being a Forest Ranger. After making the critical decision that food and shelter was necessary, I got my first job in a Toxicology lab, studying the effects of prescription drugs and trace elements on the body. I did this for three years, and quickly climbed the ranks.

After three years I was presented with the opportunity to build and run my own laboratory- testing TOYS and not blood and urine anymore. That was quite possibly the coolest job you could ever have as a chemist. I took this new job, built my lab, hired and trained my staff, and for the next three years I would be burning and maiming stuffed animals and barbie dolls all in the name of science...

*sigh* I sometimes miss that job.

Running a toy lab in an expensive area of the country (Orange County CA) became too burdensome for my mother company, so they shut it down, and I was given the option of moving, or finding another job.

And that's where the paint company found me. They brought me onboard to build a new testing program for them, which I did, and then they turned the department over to me to manage. That was the last time "chemist" would be featured in my job title, and now I bask in the glory of what we adults call, "middle management."

My career veered off in directions that I'd never be able to predict. But it's okay I suppose- it's kept me well-rounded, and I really enjoy what I do.

Given the choice- I suppose I'd like to be an author, or better yet, a film director.

Supreme Dictator of earth and lord captain commander of the californian armed forces. My school councelor says im power hungry, i say the rest of the world isn't ambitious enough.

But incase the opportunity for it doesn't present itself this is my plan.
GCSEs, A levels, University, Start my own software company and have Billl gates whacked. or if i dont get into uni:
GCSEs, A levels, Loads of independant studying, Computer game programmer. If my A levels fail me or i cant get a job:
GCSEs, The guys that work in GW stores. and if i do really bad this is my last alternative

up to the point where you consider the actual implications of killing someone. and the fact that if you get caught, you'll probably be killed in a rather unpleasant way yourself

anyways, from what i used to wanna do, i've gone waaaaay off track...multiple times, actually. nowadays, i have only a vague idea of what i wanna do, and am doing the degree that'll allow me to accomplish it. there's still years to go, though, before i actually have to make any kind of decision
