Default Bad guys in 40k, why are they all so...spiky?

In my 40k life time I've done 5 armies, Tau, Orks, Chaos, IG, and Space Wolves. I decided since I've already done 3 "Good Armies" and only 2 "Evil" armies, I'll try another "Evil" army. So I was browsing through the various Forces of Disorder and I realized something...

...Why are all the Bad Guys so spiky?!

I mean: Chaos, Dark Eldar, Tyranids, Orks... they're all so jagged and covered in pointy bits.

The one exception to this is the Necrons, who kinda have a sleek and sexy feel to them, but space skeletons arent appealing to me anymore.

The point of all this? Stop cluttering my Bad Guys with Spikes, Jags, and your general sharpness. I just want a sleek clean looking "Evil" army.

Orks are Evil??? I thought they just had IQ's worst than rocks.

Gw likes spikey evil guys so you can paint more detail on it and impail some one on a large spike.

Who says Eldar are good guys? Like Orks, they're on their own side, but unlike orks, they sometimes fight alongside their enemies.

Because they look more bad*** that way. These armies also tend to like close combat, and close combat requires spiky bits!

As to a clean looking, yet evil army, how about the imperium's facist regime and the inquisition?

Orks are then "good" cuz we fight chaos a lot more often then we work with them.

And this debate isn't about good or evil, its about why GW makes evil things spiky.

The reason is: Its expected. Its a stereotype. Its evil, so you can use the model to shave with. Its good, its....shiny. And quite clean looking. As to spikes, Kroot have a fairly spikey look to them.

The whole good army, bad army is purely based off my perspective.

Good: Imperial Guard, The Inquisition, Space Marines, Tau, Eldar

Bad: Chaos, Tyranids, Necrons, Orks, and Dark Eldar

While I could do an evil army using the guard for a cleaner look (like a rebel force or some such) it'll still be an Imperial Guard army. What I want is an army with a clean/sleek look that was intended to be bad/evil/an antagonist of some sort.

Yeah, the whole "good" "Evil" thing is perspective. They're all "Evil" in some way--Marines butchering entire worlds for a single word of heresy or Chaos butchering them for a lack thereof, it's all the same in the end. That's one of the geniuses of 40k.

But in reference to "spikey", I would put it down to this: The more spikes you have on you, the more people it looks like you can impale. You're going for the imposing look with a touch of sadistic to it, and the Dark Eldar in particular are the sadistic sort.

I'm sorry, but that joke was terrible.
:P

As for the topic, it is easier for a newbie to see that CSM are the baddies, because they are all spiky and have skulls on their weapons, etc. while the Loyalists are more clean-cut and heroic-looking.
