Default In your opinion is this list cheesey or over the top?

Hello I am back! I have discovered that I love playing a Saim Hann style of list. I have played with a smaller variation of the following list a few times and have not only won but decimated my opponent. It is very fast, very shooty, and it has great closing speed. I have found with the speed the list achieves the Shuriken Catapult Cannons are plenty effective. If you can not see how the lists works ask and I will explain the options and the tricks I have used with it.

Which made me wonder is my list cheese? Here is the list.

Heya Kalesh,

The list is fine. In fact- it's a little suboptimal if you ask me- you could get far more evil with this list than you have! For instance:

- Autarch doesn't need the fusion gun. If anything- a reaper launcher or even deathspinner would be fun- but you're more efficient sticking that lance into people.

- First Harlequin unit is very suboptimal. For 6 points less you could have just carbon-copied the other unit- which is quite killy.

- Wraithguard Wave Serpent doesn't really need star engines. Sure they're fast- and are good on the Falcons with greater durability, but not all that necessary on the serpent.

- The mounted guardians have conceal, and I'm just not a big fan of concealed, warlock'd guardian units that are mounted. You could save a ton of points here by dropping the warlock.

- The Shining Spear Exarch is wayy too decked out. Running with the speartarch- you could easily afford to drop the shuricannon and Star Lance if you needed- 207pts for 3 models is rough...

- Save yourself points by dropping the spirit stones on the Vypers. It just isn't worth it.

- The two harlequin falcons are great for blitz, but Star engines isn't critical.

Honestly- I'm looking at saving almost 200 points when I reconfigure your list. I'd do a couple of things for personal preference (like swap the Hawks for Warp Spiders), and then use the 200pts on more jetbikes/possible mounted guardian unit, for more S6 goodness.

So I guess my list would be worse at this points value! So I don't think your list is over the top.

- Yriel

Yeah i'd agree with Yriel that this list is definitely not cheesey. This list actually would be more on the unfocused side. Following Yriel's suggestions and some fine tuning/trimming of your units will yield a much more competitive list. However, as always--if you have fun with it and you enjoy what you're doing, then DO IT. Don't rely on anyone else when it comes to your enjoyment of the hobby.

=)

Your Harlequins are odd... What exactly is the first unit for? It's a lot of versatile guys in a unit that's built for Close combat, I'll agree with Yriel that It would d be better like the second. I'd also like to hear why you want the first squad like that anyway.

The Star engines on the Falcons are not a priority, they already can move 24" a turn, 36" is nice, but cost is high and those points could be used elsewhere. (beefing up the Harlie's)

I'm slightly worried on how your Jetbike squads are going to survive, They are only 3 strong, 3 good AP3 Shots will cost you a unit and in a 2000 point game there'll be a lot of AP3's flying about (unless your playing against 'nids, then rending will get you)

Personally I like the Autarch, he can counter both tanks and troops, plus can also put a high powered blast into anything the Shining Spears are charging, one AP1 can help a bunch against a highly armored unit and making 1 more dies is never too bad

Just my $2

Thanks for the replies fellas. Let me explain a few things about the list. ( I am glad you do not view it as cheesey ) I will address Yriel first.

The Autarch has the fusion gun for the simple reason oh tank/heavy/character killing ability. Ever see what happens to a tau army when you blitz across the board and stick a fusion gun up an ethereal wazoo? So far he has been a royal pain in the ass to anyone that gets within 12 inches of him. Of course he has a personal Shining Spear body guard that is fortuned and usually his targets are doomed. I wish you could doom vehicles.

Harlequins are setup that way for a reason. I know this is going to sound crazy but guess what Harlequins are plenty killy without Kisses. You can also use one unit of Harlequins with a Death Jester to support your other unit of Harlequins that are 24 inches away. The Shadowseer protects them from shooting and the Troop Master is really unbelievable in CC with the power weapon. Also do not forget that the Death Jester can fire that Pinning Shuriken Cannon and still charge into combat. Granted I would rather field two squads like my second however I prefer to play with the WYSIWYG rules. So playing with the units as is has forced me to take on another view with the Harlequins. Two units can support each other. Also in this list they are the only foot troops I expect to do anything.

Wraithguard are a big speed bump / tank hunters. I simply love them over the Fire Dragons. They can actually get assaulted and tie an enemy unit up for more than one turn. Its crazy I know but it does happen. I somewhat agree that Star Engines are not needed but damn are they fun. being able to draw out the biggest strength in the Eldar arsenal which in this list is pure speed is amazing. I can be in my enemies back line with potential threats on turn 1. With the survivability of the Falcons and the Wave Serpents the Enemy doesn't know what to take down first. I have learned a few tricks in playing lately one of them being present the enemy with so many targets that they can not focus fire on one threat.

I can see dropping the Warlock and Conceal from the mounted Guardians. It really is just a point sink since the unit will most likely speed across the board try to get to within 12 inches of something and let loose. They then will most likely get assaulted and die. They are a speedbump thats all.

The Spear Exarch can be toned down a little. I think I will drop the Star Lance and Withdrawl. I have never gotten my Spears out of combat. My opponent knows to kill the Exarch first. I really like the Shuriken Cannon because no one really expects that squad to be able to snipe at 24 inches and have fortune. I will keep the Cannon.

Vypers are a tough choice I think I will go back to just using 2 with Scatter Lasers and no spirit stones.

The Harlequin Falcon blitz is unbelievable. I actually think that Harlequins are under priced for what they can do to an entire flank if you can get them there. The star engines ensure that they get there in one piece. Again one unit is a support for the other. You play Harlequins you have to know how absolutely crazy people get with trying to kill them. They are a great distraction fire magnet destructive ball of evil.

I am afraid I have now discovered why EM likes Swooping Hawks. The squad can really annihilate vehicles and they are great light armored troop killers. I can not switch these guys out. They are a great surprise!

Now to address Echo34

I am not really all that concerned with competitive. I do not mind loosing if it was a fun battle I do not play tournaments and have no wish to play tournaments. Just not my style. I agree that the hobby is fun when you play it for you and not for others. I will always just do my best to make any game I play in fun for both sides.

I may not be the best person to coment on this, as I play slow eldar, but one thing we have in common is the fact that multiple targets are a good thing. If you like the fast in the multiple targets then go for it. I hope one day we cross paths and can play, looks like it will be fun to play aganst.
