Let's start this thread by stating that the 5th edition rules rumor is just that, a rumor. However, for the purposes of this thread, let's assume that the rumor is true and that everything about the rumor is also true.
That being said, I wanted to hear the Dark Eldar perspective of the new edition. Do you think it'll give more power to the Dark Eldar? A few of the more relevant rumors: Defensive weapons S4 or less - this means that Ravagers would be the only vehicle in the game unaffected by the new vehicle rules, while other tanks are stuck firing only one weapon, or not moving in order to shoot Skimmer movement rules - with skimmers moving 6+ inches no longer counting all hits as glancing, you might think that this is actually a bad thing for all your Raiders. However, you might appreciate that 5+ cover save from that lascannon, and glancing hits (like from bolters) will be less threatening than they are now. Additionally, if you don't get first turn, penetrating hits are also less damaging as they are in 4th edition, AND you can take advantage of cover saves, extending the life of your vehicles. Additionally, your Dark Lances will now be able to penetrate Eldar vehicles whereas now you're stuck with glancing hits. Troops inside a destroyed vehicle - Now that troops will no longer be entangled, your troops will be able to rush into an assault instead of being left in the dust to be shot at. Sure, they will take pinning tests, but at least you have a chance of passing whereas now you have zero chance. Troops blocking line of sight - while there is some controversy over this rumor, any sort of limitation on line of sight on intervening troops is very helpful for the Dark Eldar, providing more protection from enemy shooting which can be devastating to fragile troops. Any other thoughts? |

I think the biggest thing that would affect me would the 18" fast skimmer rules that are rumoured to be in the next edition. Gone are the days of the 1st turn charge for my Archite... But it'll just require a bit more thought on deployment and tactical use of cover

I think there are still ups and downs. The rule stating that independent characters automatically join squads in 2" means that you'll have to be careful where you put your lone Skyboard or Jetbike-mounted characters. Additionally, the scattering rule for blast templates means that blast-mode disintegrators might be a little more inaccurate than before (though they'll still be great against hordes).
