Sorry for making a very 'open' subject and one which I'm sure has been asked. But I used to play Dark Eldar (well I had a troop & hq and fought my friend once about 5yrs ago and so far thats all my 40k fighting experience). I never considered restarting 40K with them because from what I hear, no one uses them , no-one likes them and that GW are cutting down the production of Dark Eldar.
Is it true about GW? And what are your views on Dark Eldar? |

If no-one liked them or used them, then they wouldn't have racked up so many wins in the EoT campaign. They got the 4th highest number of wins overall of all the armies including sub-types. They still 'lost' the war in the Webway of course, there was no way they could compete with the vast number of Eldar players placing win results there. (It also didn't help that large numbers of Dark Eldar players also 'went by the fluff' and fought against Chaos, thus giving a result against Disorder, their own side...)
GW have cut down production, but certainly not completely. They produce according to needs, and Dark Eldar are not a very popular army compared to many others. There's a perception among the non-clued up players that Dark Eldar are a weak army that cannot win, but this is simply not true. Dark Eldar definately need to be used carefully, and punish sloppy unthinking play, but if you're smart they really can shred anyone. Gav Thorpe on the Dark Eldar future, interview from Dysartes.com: "The main thrust will be giving them a full size Codex that allows us to explore more of their history and nature. We worked out quite a bit of detail last time around, but the size and style of the early 3rd edition Codexes precluded us from being able to publish much of it. Really, it's more detail on the Fall, the founding of Commoragh, the evolution of the sects (such as the Haemonculi and Wyches), as well as the disturbing nature of the Mandrakes and Scourges (which are supposed to be a lot darker than they are currently presented). As for the playing style, I would expect them to retain the dynamic they have - fast, fragile and deadly. Without having reviewed the current list in detail yet, we can't point to any specific areas that need revision, although I suspect the most obvious ones have already been widely discussed on the 'net"

Dark Eldar are savage in every sense of the word. If Eldar are a scalpel, Dark Eldar are a rusty serrated ritual-blade thats been re-sharpened but not cleaned.
Basically, hard to use (hence the lack of players), but very rewarding.

yeah they are fun to mow down, and their raiders are the funniest things to blow up. Because they go down so easy! youd expect a race of such technology to have better armour than orc vehicles but thats just me.

I'd like to see you youngin's go up against a good Dark Eldar player... like me... > Chances are you wouldn't even get a chance to shoot down many Raiders, what with me hiding all of mine inside the Webway...

Personally i wouldnt mind if they were shot down 105 pts for a raider squad 2 DL's.
Can we say thats pretty much a land speeder with better range and tankbusting ability or far better troop killing. As for WWp armies i got kinda bored of them it wasnt really a challenge after a while. Homo runs warriors get shot and then all hell breaks loose and anything within 12+2+12+d6=27-32 dies. Less if you want to use incubi. There are very few armies that can actually put a massive wwp assault at bay but they are all cc oriented and usually have a 3+ save(incubi help here) All in All DE are a poisoned tipped arrow of death but if the wind is to strong the arrow can miss the target.
