Default Open Topped Skimmers

Ok, I know this applies to more than just Dark Eldar but since it concerns them most I decided to ask it here.

Does the skimmer moving over 12" rule (penetrating hits become glancing) override the open topped rule (other way round) or do they both negate each other causing penetrating and glancing shots to occur normally?

I'd really like to know if hooning around really helps or if it just makes me seem like a tool with a fast sportscar.

The skimmer's negating penetrating results would have nothing to do with being open-topped (rules), I don't see how you thought it would be negated. The open-topped roll just makes the vehicle a little more vulnerable when it comes to rolling a damage result, so when rolling on the certain bar (glancing/penetrating), you add +1 to the die result you just rolled to see what damage you get on your vehicle.

If a skimmer moves up to 12", it downgrades all penetrating hits into glancing hits, so that your opponent must roll on the glancing chart to discover what damage he bestows upon your vessel. Meaning that your opponent rolls a die on the glancing chart, then adds 1 to his roll to make up for your vehicle's open-topped rule.

Hey guys,

Just to clarify,

The "Skimmers moving fast" rule is based on skimmers that move move than 6" which is quite different than more than 12". A skimmer which moves more than 12" cannot fire any weapons, and units aboard a transport as such cannot even disembark.

This rule has zero effect on being open-topped. Open-topped merely adds +1 to the damage results, and makes you a tad more vulnerable to blast templates (though this is hardly something to worry about). Also note that open-topped allows all your models aboard a transport to fire their weapons (not heavy ones of course), so long as you have not moved more than 12". Pretty neat if you have some splinter cannons.

Cheers!

Hey, Mal. I was just using his measurement (12") as the clarifying point for his questions.
