I suppose he wants to start an Eldar army and is telling us what he does as a Tau player to demonstrate his playing method.

If you like long range there is no better than the reapers, they also dont move much. A farseer with fortune and guide to support them wouldnt go a miss and a couple small squads of rangers to fill the troops requirements. 200 pts is remarkably small, I dont think you can play an actual battle with that little.

I don't agree, static isn't a good way to play Eldar in my opinion. The reapers'll be too expensive for small turn battles - I think it would be best to get two guardian squads and a farseer.

well, he should start with two squads of guardians and a farseer.

Then it depends on his fighting style, what he prefers because you can customise in many different ways. For instance, does he have any idea whether he'd like to collect a specific craftworld.

I would suggest this as a base then:

Farseer
Guardian Defender Squad
Guardian Defender Squad
Falcon Squad Box

That gives you a heavy support, an HQ and two troops at full strength. Break the unit that comes with the falcon in half and use them to fill up the two guardian squads. There is no waste that way.

From there you can go close combat with a squad of striking scorpions and a wave serpent. Get some dark reapers for long range support. Swooping Hawks for rapid attacks. The vyper, falcon and fire prism can be used with the crystal targeting matrix to provide safe heavy weapon fire. They can move out of cover, fire then move back all in the movement phase, so they are like Tau battlesuites that way. Warp Spiders are good for hampering enemy movements and taking out isolated units. It all depends on where he wants to go.

first thing your mate should do is get the books: codex eldar and craftworld eldar. if he reads through those he'll get an idea of what the units strengths are. then he should read through the craftworld eldar to get an idea of which craftworld he'd like to play. then you should direct him to the stickied threads here describing what all the units are capable of.

starting a force isn't as simple as "here's an army list" your friend should get an idea of what the units can do and be able to make at least some choices for himself, rather than being pre-fed a list by someone who's formulated a battle plan for the list they gave. if he'd like to use tactics with a bit more finesse than "roll the mother------' dice" he's going to have to understand (at least in part) why he's doing what he's doing before he even gets to the table.

i suggest he reads up a bit, makes his own army list and posts here, stating who his usual opponents will be. that way he'll have a better understanding of the advice dispensed with tightening up his force.

good luck

that would be Beil- Tan, my second choise

in that case he should still get a least one squad of Guardians and get a squad of Strinking Scorpions and/or Howling Banshees
