Default Melta Vs Holofields

Sorry to be asking such a noobish question, but how does Melta work against holofields?

Do I roll 4d6 and pick the 2 lowest?

No such thing as bad questions, only bad answers. 0

The Holofields and Melta rule come in play at diffrent times during the shooting at tanks. Here's an example to demonstrate:
A Tau Stealthsuit fires it's melta at the front of our Falcon.
- First the suit rolls to hit (nothing changed here), let's say it hit.
- Now for Armour Penetration the Melta rule goes in effect. The suit rolls for armour penetration using S 2D6 (as he is in melta range). The total of BOTH dice plus the strength of the weapon is used to determine if the Falcon is penetrated or glanced. Let's say penetrated.
- Now the Holofield does his job. Normally you roll on the damage table with one dice, the Holofield lets you use 2. So lets say you get stunned and wrecked. Your Falcon is now stunned.

The Holofield doesn't protect the tank from being penetrated, it protects versus damage. So you have to roll 2 times wrecked before that falcon goes down (or 2 times immobilised if moving fast).

I hope the example clears things up. If I said/explained something wrong, I'm sure the next guy will point that out.

With the melta do you still get the +1 on the damage table chart for AP1? On the example above would it be weapon destroyed instead?

The AP1 bonus remains unaffected.

The change is that damage result roll is changed from D6 to the lowest result of 2D6.

You are indeed correct. I made a mistake in my example, thanks for the heads-up. Anyway it was more to explain the 2D6 then the AP1 (totally forgot about that).

Anyway, welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy it here.
