Right, do you want them to look like Dire Avengers, or do you want them to look like they're capable of the same things as Dire Avengers?

If you want the first one, really your only option is green stuff and some careful sculpting.

If you want the second... well, there's a ludicrous amount of options, so tell me about your Craftworld and we'll go from there =)

Well, the major differences are that DA's have taller helmets with a crest, a robe thing on their waist, longer and scoped guns, and bigger pauldrons. Personally, I would just invest in a squad: it'd be hard to make the conversion look really good and the Avenger box is cheap, and is one of the few Eldar kits that come with a lot of extra parts for you to customize with.

Well, the reason I ask about your Craftworld is there may be relevant stuff in your fluff that'd provide ideas to convert with. For example, if your Craftworld is one of the many DIY Craftworlds that follows Ynnead, perhaps some skulls on the Guardians would be enough to make them stand apart as something different.

But I'm also with Warpspiderman on the fact that you may as well just buy Avengers, if you like the look of them.

The thing is i'm 16, don't have a job and have to wait for my surgery bill to be paid off before i can get anything else. And it is a DIY craftworld but i don't have fluff for them yet. :/

Then I would just play the guardians as DA's. They're not extremely different, and both wield shuriken catapults. I'm sure your opponent will be just fine with it. The problem is that there are few bits you can use to successfully convert them. You could pick up some scopes from Imperial friends (their boxes tend to have lots of scopes for bolters, snipers, etc) and glue them on the top to make avenger shuricats. As far as the head crests and larger pauldrons, you're kind of screwed. The Eldar just don't have the convertability of other races who have more extra bits and less metal. You have to work with what you've got.

The pauldrons aren't a problem, greenstuff can fix that.. the crest is what concerns me. :P

Well, you could try greenstuffing the crests, too. Make an arc to support it, then a bigger arc on top of that to be the hair. You could use an exacto knife on the sides to make it look like there's a bunch of hair by making lot of thin, vertical cuts.

You could probably do something simpler by painting a special rune on their helmets, or maybe give their helmets ponytails ala Storm Guardians.

Edit: If you have any Dark Eldar playing buddies, the D.Eldar have some Dire Avenger-esque looking heads for their warriors they might be willing to lend.
