Me: These guys are shooting with meltas
Opponent: Which ones have meltas?
Me: All of them

Taught them to go Mech, multi-wound, or MC heavy ^-^

And when they take not mech, multi-wound, or MC heavy lists, you unload the other 2 Serpents, 1 filled with Howling Banshees, the other with Dire Avengers. ;D

I'd say the last few posts have covered my thoughts on why Dragons are better than Wraithguard. Even with a Serpent they're cheaper, faster, and I'd say overall more likely to reach their target. And I don't know about everyone else, but in my local meta I face a lot of defilers, vindicators, and LRBT's. Conceal and fortune can only go so far to protect you from large blast weapons that wound you're expensive T6 model on a 2+ and ignore your armor.

And on top of that, They aren't as much of a points loss when the inevitable campaign of vengeance that results from their nuking something dear to the opponent kills them off.

@ Colonel, yeah, that's just about the other part of my list ^-^

Tigstripe,

Have you come to a decision?

Oh yeah. The game I'd put this up for was weeks ago. But the opinions and arguments of either side was enlightening to a meager noob strategist.

If you're curious, I did take Wraithguard. It's been so long, I don't even remember the outcome of the battle, but I believe that the Nids stayed completely out of Wraithcannon range the entire game, giving the Wraithguard the job of "deterrent." For 350 points. x_x But for all their unsuccess, I was fine with it. I've learned a lot about Wraithguard since then.

As far as the discussion goes, I'm in the camp of "resiliency trumps destructability." In all my matches, I've been able to use Wraithguard as a deterrent, a decoy, a sturdy objective keeper, a monolith hunter, terrain remover, an advancing wall, and a maaaaajor threat priority manipulator. Fire Dragons are amazing at what they do, but because of how good they are at it, it's pretty rare that they get to do it twice in the same battle to the same extent. People see the orange and fire at will, ignoring a vast amount of other possible tactics before them. Until they pop out of that Serpent, no one cares about them, and when they do, they're pretty much singing with the angels. I know there's a lot of strategy with properly isolating targets for them, but I'm not that good yet. At my level of experience, something that can take some hits is worth a points sink.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this discussion; I'm sure someone aside from myself learned a thing or two.
