Default Vs Horde Armys

I was wondering how you lot play against horde armys. I can from playing SM, so against orks and 'nids i just use Heavy bolters and so on. But Eldar dont have that really, like mass shots and there Dire/Guardians are to short range for a CC horde army...Any advice?

Against horde armies, Shuriken is a blessing.

I would recommend loading up on:
Dire Avengers with Bladestorm
Shuriken Cannons
Vibrocannons, Shadow Weavers (or D-Cannons for the big ones)
Striking Scorpions, possibly with Karandras vs 'Nids.
Maybe Guardians to slow enemies in CC.

warwalkers with two scatterlasers can give you lots of dakka.
serpents with twin EML plus hull mounted shricannon, mounted up with a full squad of bladestorming avengers just EATS hordes for breakfast.

other seldom used one is 'eldrich storm' farseer power, or squads of destructor warlocks with a doomseer (think 5 or more heavy flamers rerolling to wound)

finally... a dark reaper exarch with fast shot and a tempest launcher, and a prism also, makes a great pie plates against groups of wadded up figures... hordes or MEQ. the dispersion makes them good on hordes who tend to be clumped close to each other for table room reasons, and the AP makes them good against heavy infantry. either way they are good.

against stuff like the green tide or millions of guant types of armies... it becomes more about tactics and positioning than specific units trying to play rock-paper-scissors. having a screen of (sadly) guardians, or a counter charge unit screened by your dakka unit are both good ways to prevent being swamped and bogged down in cc.

The way I look at it, Guardians being involved at all indicates a desperation on a large scale. The Guardians are trained soldiers too (although the current statline doesn't represent this well, in fluff they are). Despite lacking the status of being holy warriors like their aspect brethren, they know why they throw down and make the sacrifice if they actually get called to fight, in order to ensure an overall victory, perhaps at their own expense. They trust the seers who may put them in harms way because of an overall strand of potential futures, and trust their path serves its purpose for the Eldar race as a whole. Eldar don't have human-like emotions, and their self inflicted discipline makes them prime candidates for volunteer meatshields.

Units that work great against hordes;

Farseer: Doom, Guide, Eldritch Storm, Fortune
Avatar
Karandras
Warlock Squads: Embolden, Enhance, Destructor

Harlequins: Shadowseer, Death Jesters
Scorpions: Biting Blade, Shadowstrike

Avengers: twin Catapults, Defend, bladestorm
Guardian Defenders: EML, Scatterlaser, Embolden
Guardian Storm: Flamers, Destructor, Enhance
Rangers (Pinning)
Jetbikes: Cannons, Embolden

Hawks: Sunrifle, Skyleap
Spiders: Twin Death Spinners, Withdraw
Vypers: Shuriken cannon, EML, Scatter laser

Support Weapons: Vibrocannons, Shadow Weavers
Fire Prisms: Spirit Stones, Holofields, dispersed shots
War Walkers: EMLS, Shuriken Cannons, Scatter Lasers
Wraithlords: 2 Flamers, Wraithsword, EML, Scatter Laser, Shuriken cannon.

You may see a running theme of what weapons work best....

How about trying a War Walker squadron, all 3 equipped with ShuriCans and Scatters, I wouldn't bother with EML's, if you have 3 equipped like so, you get 21 S6 shots per turn. Not too shabby for one Heavy Support slot.

actually double shricans is just about the same and much cheaper for walkers vs hordes, and you know they'll get in range anyaways because the hordes will be halfway accross the board in a turn or two anyway trying to get to you.

Scats are more for the range than the extra shot, and past turn 2 against a horde of gaunts or orks type stuff they will be in range regardless.

No, because doesn't it count as a single Twin-linked ShuriCan?
