I don't see why Vypers are SO good.

Here's what I like about them:

They are pretty cheap for what they do.
If you keep them moving people can only glance them.
They can be mounted with weapons to fit any situation.
They're fast!

What is it that you dislike about them?

Vypers rock, but Venoms are better.

The amazing thing about vipers is a twofold niftiness.. firepower for any situation (potentially) and the agility to get that firepower exactly where it's needed while avoiding most enemy return fire corridors.

Vipers rule.. sadly I have no room for them in my army.. Waveserpents are my fast attack.. all m,y attack actually ;D

Everyone has already given why vypers are one of the best eldar units so far but I want to chime in as I have just finished painting my 8Th last night.

So your going up against a heavy infantry space marine army? 8 Starcannons and 24 killing shots if they hit.

Armored Company? 8 Brightlance shots a round

Horde army? Scatter lasers and Shuricannons somewhere in the range of 48 killing shots a round if they hit.

A good mix? EML's and you can handle most anything.

Best of all you can config each differently. Its the flexiblflexibilityk in so many roles that I like about my Vypers, lord knows few eldar units are more than a one trick pony.

EML's are great, mainly because they allow you to cause devestation at extreme long range. Not many things are going to be able to hit your Vypers at 48", and those that do can only glance if you keep them moving, no matter how powerful.
3 Vypers can put down three blasts or 3 anti-tank shots every turn. I plan to have nine in my army. ;D

True, but it's their cargo that makes them so.

Hawks are fun, but they fill totally different roles. The Hawks are horde-fighters with their deepstrike templates and rapid-firing weaponry (fast firing, to avoid rules terms confusion).

The Vyper is the jack-of-all-trades, fast moving nightmare. I prefer them by far realy beceause you can mount almost anything (no prisim cannons, sorry kids) but almost all the Eldar vehicle weapons. I have three in my army, though I will probably be proxying them with anything about the same size for the forseeable future. I give them all EMLs beceause they can stay out of return fire and they are the only EML carriers in my army.
