Default Guardian Jetbikes, Useful?

i was just lookin through the codex when i started thinking about guardian jetbikes. are they even good? i know their on jetbikes, but their still guardians at heart. what would be the best warlock power for this squad? i was thinking of enhance, since they have the 3+ save, they wont need a 5+ cover. also, what would be an ideal number of guardian jetbikes for an effective squad? would shuriken catapults be a good investment?

i would love to have these questions answered, and thanks in advance! 8)

I find that a minimal squad is pretty efficient - three Jetbikes, with a shuriken cannon, and a Warlock with a singing spear; it's a great unit for hunting light armour, and you can harass other targets as well.

All the powers have their benefits, but I would go for Embolden in any small unit, since only a couple casualties can force harsh Morale checks on them.

Enhance... well, you don't really want to toss them into combat, and Destructor is a good option but it makes the above (tying up your mobile firepower unit in assault) almost inevitable.

Conceal is still a great option, since if your opponent points his anti-Marine weapons at you, you still have the recourse of a saving throw.

They are more accurate than guardians, and slightly tougher. You probably don't want them in CC though, unless you have doom and fortune, which would be a waste of powers. They are better off nipping away at the sides of a squad, combined with fire power from more shooty units. Most people use them as a slightly tougher scoring unit, combined with embolden chances of running are low. Dont charge with them unless there is an autarch with them or you are charging a vehicle. Use the free 6 inch movement to escape potential charges....

Yeah, for me they're an excellent harassing unit. A decent sized squad with Shuriken Cannon(s) can do some good sprinkling of the enemy while being a good distance away.

Against MEqs (as mobile Troops) I think you're better off with Dire Avenger setups. Static Troops for anti-MEq? Pathfinders/Rangers.

thanks everyone!

the reason why i was thinking of enhance was because they need to get in assault range to shoot, so it will let them last longer.

although i was looking for a quick and efficient firing platform, i guess i do need them for quick objective takers.

You really don't NEED a quick objective taker, but I would imagine that these would be very useful for doing so. I would imagine myself using some kind of CC troop combo (like banshees + scorpions) in wave serpents, to destroy units on an objective, and then use the jet bikes to come in the next turn and capture the objective.

You could also do a unit of banshees and a unit of storm guardians (with 2 flamers) in wave serpents to quickly get to an objective one turn, then jump out and rush it the next turn. The flamers + 2 units of CC should be enough to take out whatever is at the objective, and since the storm guardians are troops, the objective would be in your favor.

Also always keep in mind that you only ever need 1 objective, the rest just have to be unoccupied or in conflict.

My personal use for Guardian Jet bikes is a dirt cheap, fast scoring unit for late in the game. Since they cost so little for a min squad itís ok that they aren't doing damage, that's not why they are there. I'll usually leave them off the table in reserve then keep them in cover until I need them to turbo boost onto an objective to score. It really depends on your list though, If you have a good amount of Dire avengers in wave serpents this role may not be needed. As far as taking them for killing power I find to do so bumps the cost up quite a bit and eldar has much better choices for killing than a large unit of tooled out Guardian Jet Bikes. Just my personal opinion.

Eldar Jetbikes are very good, I use two units of three, I keep them in reserve, to keep both units out of trouble for at least a couple of turns.

Then bring them on in the late game to contest/take objectives.

They aren't game breakers but they are our second cheapest troops, secondly only 5 dire avengers.
