Default Starting Eldar - $150

I'm planning to start an Eldar force, and I would like some advice on how to start off a force on a fairly small budget.

Hailing to my Mech Tau roots and 'striker-sniper' style, I am looking for either a fast moving or fast-snipy combo. As it stands, I want to be heavy on Rangers and, if they are worth it, Swooping Hawks.

So far, my list is as follows:

Codex: $20
Guardians: $40
Falcon: $50
Rangers: $16
2x Hawks: $28
TOTAL: $154
-30 (rogue trader card)
=$124

If anyone can give me feedback on whether this playstyle is doable, or what I should change, I would appreciate greatly. Also, how much skill to the Eldar take to play, and should I spend some time honing my Tau mobile tactics before rushing in to it, so I have more experience?

I really wouldn't bother with Rangers, go with Swooping Hawks, Warp Spiders, Dire Avengers, or Striking Scorpions

Actually, I'd go the other way around.
Rangers can be very effective, especially if you take maximum advantage of minimum squad requirements, meaning that you take, say ten Rangers, and instead of making it one squad, you should split it into two three man squad, and one four man squad. This'll make it harder for your opponent to take down a single squad, as well as making it easier to pin a single target. You can also target multiple enemy squads this way too ^_^.

Now, generally, it seems like Striking Scorpions are popular.
If you are taking a Falcon, then I'd suggest with maybe two six man squads, including Exarches (I like infiltrating infantry ^_^), as it'll create the possibility of making your squads more mobile by loading them into the Falcon when you need to move quickly.
Now, to do this, I would have to say that you'd need to get rid of your Hawks to make room money-wise.
I would say that after this, you should either put in a Warwalker squadron for heavy fire, or a Support Battery squad for the same reason.

You have good units to take down infantry of all kinds (even Termies ^_^), but your anti-tank is very weak, being mostly limited to your single Falcon. The Warwalker is my personal choice, as you can equip it with Starcannons for versitile anti-light tank/heavy infantry, or you can give it some Bright Lances to take down all tanks. Remember, that it's two seperate weapons, not twin-linked.

If you want a real Mech-Tau style, then you should consider Wave Serpents. Unlike a few years ago, you can now buy one from Games Workshop instead of converting a Falcon. This'll make your Guardians mobile, leaving the only static element being your Rangers, and any heavy weapons you might have.

The Scorpions can infiltrate, to be a heavy version of Kroot, and you can transport another squad in your Falcon for the beginning of the game to rush your opponent.

One thing, the Eldar do play like a melee version of Tau, from what I remember (I only played them a bit, and that was years ago). Most of Eldar units are as fast, or faster than anything your opponent can field, and EVERY melee specialist is very good at what they do.
Hope this helps ^_^.

Every time an opponent has used Rangers against me they have been a complete waste.

I agree. Don't take rangers. Aspect warriors simply kill stuff better.

I'd buy a Farseer, because you kinda need one of them, and maybe some Heavy Weapon Platforms for your Guardians.

Vypers! You can't go wrong with Vypers, you can customize them any way you want. You can make them an expensive harrasing unit with loads of firepower that never present a target (like I do) or you can have cheap skimmer that can lay down some impressive fire and move very quickly.

If you're planning on Rangers you might want to consider Alaitoc, Pathfinders rock.
I would also suggest trading in those Swooping Hawks for Vyper Jetbikes with Eldar Missile Launchers.

Thanks for the advice guys, I ment to include a Farseer in my rundown but I seemingly forgot my general : :P.
My current opponents will be no-clue-on-what-army-type (NCONOWAT?) Tau, range heavy ??? Blood Angels, Ultramarines, CSM/traitor legions, Tyranids and Orks, so seemingly I'll need alot more counter-heavy units than I have at the moment.

Thanks for all the help guys, if I play a specific army I'll prolly go for Alaitoc or maybe Saim-Hann.

I've never played against Orks.
No one plays them around here.
