Default First Major purchase--aid welcome

I have played a few proxy battles in the past couple weeks, and spent a while reading up on the Eldar. I am just about ready to bring myself to shell out some money (a deed that is difficult for someone as miserly as I am) to get an army going. So, a critique on the below purchases would be very welcome indeed. I already have a farseer and the two codexes. This is for an army loosely set at 1500 points--my friends began long before I did, and to catch up I need to build an army rather quickly.

1 Falcon box set, w/ eight guardians
3 orders of warp spiders, and one exarch. Total of 6 men and an exarch
4 orders of striking scorpions, and an exarch (plus a classics scorpion--cheaper than buying two). Total of 9 men and an exarch.
2 orders of dark reapers, and one exarch. Total of 4 men and an exarch.
1 box set of 16 guardians.
3 orders of rangers. Total of 9 men.
1 Wraithlord.

I was thinking about just getting one order of dark reapers and an exarch (5 dark reapers are probably overkill) , as well as adding a vyper or two to the list. Thanks for any advice!

Sounds good for a vanilla list my friend, but were you thinking of any particular Craftworld?
If you can afford the price, War Walkers would be far better use of points than Dark Reapers (IMO), depending on who you plan to battle of course.

If you were thinking of collecting a craftworld this is an absolutely fantasticly helpful topic to look at:

*arrogance rivals that of RJay's!*

I personally wouldn't recommend war walkers - they're cheap in both ways but they die too easily.

I plan on playing vanilla for a while; although the craftworlds are very attractive (Ulthwe, Alaitoc, Biel-Tan, oh my!), I thought I would refrain from their specialization until I get a better idea of how I like to play (though I do know that I like firepower ). Thanks for the tip on war walkers, but, as you said Rezzy, they are a wee bit expensive. I'll test them out a bit later for firepower on the flank (especially since they were brought to my attention-thanks again), but I think I'll stick by reapers for now. I am rather biased; my reapers in a proxy battle a couple weeks ago blew away a genestealer squad five inches in front of them. On the next turn, the exarch alone (thank you, plasma missiles!) destroyed a hormagaunt squad. When they were assualted, they managed to survive approximately 40 attacks, and kill off another half squad.
I know they were lucky, but I think the least I can do for such a spectacular performance is buy them. ;D

Thanks for responding!

Addendum:
Tau Killer, I took a look at the topic you mentioned, and it was very interesting. Ulthwe very nearly became my choice--but I managed to keep to my initial vanilla resolve.
I think I can wait.
I'll keep telling myself that.

Feeling the pull of the damned upon you....?
I got that once.

Now I collect Ulthwe. ;D

Yes, it does seem pretty inevitable. Their fluff is very cool, and the idea of guardians that hit is very, very nice. My only problem is that I like aspect warriors a great deal. I'll test them out, find a couple aspects that I like the most and think are effective, and then build an Ulthwe army.
Until then, I must make do with BS 3...

BS 3 + guide = 75% of shots hitting!
BS 4 = 66% of shots hitting. :-\
BS 4 + guide = 89% of shots hitting! ;D

BS 3 seriously pains me. The only things in my army with BS 3 (that doesn't have twin linked weapons) are my falcon and vypers.

a cute list, i'd suggest adding a weapons platform or two and a farseer with two or three warlocks.

granted you can proxy them untill you're prepared to purchase them, but you'll note that virtually everyone includes in their lists: platforms, seers and warlocks. in smaller point games, you'll be less likely to utilise both sets of aspects but i'd expect to see seers/platforms.

Thank you sin; I had forgotten to put two warlocks on the list :-\. And I already have a farseer, as I said a couple lines higher than the quoted bit you have.
I was intimidated by the twenty-dollar cost of a single weapons platform, but you are right; they are considered useful by just about everybody. I might as well hop on the bandwagon!
