Is the avatar still used? Do you still think that he's worth using or are Farseers better for use. I myself like to use him in my army as you can get quite a lot out of him considering his points cost - although admittedly Farseers are a much more solid, reliable choice.

Hmm, if the Avatar can be shielded from the brunt of most shooting before he reaches combat I think he really turns into a bit of a monstor, espcially helping other nearby eldar combats. However the hard part can sometimes be getting him there thats for certain!

The reliable farseer should always be taken in my opinion, but the inclusion of an Avatar as well is a good choice too seeing as it is still fairly cheap, and if it does get into combat, it usually does very well for a relativly low points cost that you spent for it.

No reason not to always take both. The Avatar is only 80 points and he's guaranteed to attract the attention of every heavy weapon on the other side, think of him as insurance that there's less firing at the important stuff like Falcons and Wave Serpents.
Although if you really want to see him survive then have your farseer and Avatar join into one unit and then watch your Avatar benefit from the joy that is Fortune. A 5+ reroll is better odds than a 4+ standard. It essentially gives him a 3.5+ invulnerable save he'll make it alright.

I use him, but he never survives. :P I guess I should try that tactic, but it's hard to put my avatar in the unit with my farseer because my farseer's jetbike is fast.......

In that case, so is sex. Therefore, pornstars and prostitutes are professional athletes.

Putting him in a unit with a farseer (who has fortune) will definetely increase his survival rate. But another useful tactic would be to put him in a unit of striking scorpians, with an exarch, who has stealth. Either that (or if your beil tan) in a court of the young king, with a striking scorp. exarch. The ability to infiltrate can mean he only has to trudge a fraction of the amount he had to before.

Hmm, so Monstrous creatures are allowed to infiltrate? It doesn't really say anything about it in the rule book (pg 75), but I know that in the chaos codex there were a list of things that couldn't infiltrate - including monstrous creatures (Daemon Princes).

it's a lovely idea but I'm afraid it can't be done. *A striking scorpion exarch cannot take the infiltrate ability if he is part of the Court of the Young King. *It would be great if he could though.... :-\

I wondered about this as well as the whole 'Monstrous Infiltration', it did sound like a neat idea, a bit too good to be legal however!

or alternatively you could buy the flaming wind upgrade for the avatar which can be found on page 394 of my new revised codex which allows the avatar to deepstrike, move and assault on the turn he arrives. However to keep things fair his WS is reduced to 9 and he can't fleet of foot!

Or alternatively we could just use the avatar as he is and laugh like a drain when he reaches combat....
