If only the craftworlds would unite and co-operate....
just think what would then happen. If they co-operated the Eldar would become much, much more powerful and think of what they could then do in the galaxy.
GW will very probably never let it happen but still, it's extremely pleasant to visualise it happening - isnt it?

They will unite, in the Rhana Dandra, but until then they're just to arrogant to get along without insulting each other, and constantly trying to out do each other...and getting into un-needed conflicts...

I know that they're supposed to unite at the 'final battle' at the Rhana Dandra but why? Who are they fighting, why are they fighting, what happens as the result of the battle?

Well I can answer a bit of that. All the Phoenix Lords die. However not even the most powerful psykers can see the outcome of the Rhana Dandra.

The Rhana Dandra is the final conflict, where either Chaos is finally defeated, or the Warp merges with the material realm, and the Fell Gods rule all.

I'd guess that it's because after that point there's to much interference from the Warp (probably because the Gods gett excited because they've defeated the greatest warriors of all the Aspects).

Or possibly because there is some kind of psychic barrier?
More likely however, is that GW realised it would be boring to know who was going to win.

Rhana Dandra is after the emperor dies and the sensei knights (the so called sons of the emperor) lead the long watch. Until Chaos finally tries to overwhelm humanity and the material realm. Apparently, Ynnead, the strongest of all eldar gods, would awake, the phoenix lords would unite, and lead eldar, whilst the sensei knights lead humanity, into the final conflict with chaos. Battle to end all battles.Either they finally destroy chaos, or chaos overwhelms the material realm.
