Default Wraithguard

Does anyone use them or has GW made them too expensive?

Also if you do use them - how do you use them (ie tactics)

I have used them in the past ( they are cool models ) but to use them effectively you must put them in a WS with a warlock. This is only 5 wraithcannon shots but the limited range of the gun and slow movement means that sometimes an extremely expensive squad does not get to touch the enemy. This is also very expensive pts wise ( around 350 ) so if you take them they must have SOMETHING important to do. ( hello monolith, or landraider or whatever ).
Get in position and drop them out for a shot and see what happens- don't use them against anything that is not big and tough, and generally they are much better against armor than troops ( only 5 shots + pistol from warlock duh :P)
I tend to not use them anymore because I have so many other choices that don't cost nearly as much, but when I did use them they were good at killing big things and scaring the bejeezuz out of my opponent ( yes mr. carnifex that 6 means a hole in the warp, in you go!).

I had 5 wraithguard in my old eldar army. I found that they never ended up paying back their point cost. Despite being tough, they really cannot take as much firepower as their stats might suggest. I do not use them anymore. Go Wraithlords!

In that case, so is sex. Therefore, pornstars and prostitutes are professional athletes.

Once I get an actuall army I'll get some, as soon as they don't cost $80 for 5.

I know, that's the main problem. They're so horribly expensive :-\

I believe wraithguard are only even remotley effective in very limited situations, armour or terminator hunting for example.

There painfully slow speed and high points cost coupled with the poor range will ensure that the squad is destroyed before they have any effect on the game. This means you must use a wave-serpent and warlock with them.

Even then as ive said they only cause a decent amount of damage if they are vehicle or super-elite hunting.

I feel that they are too costly for their speed, this negates their weapon as the opponent should recognise the damage they can do and simply keep moving to stay out of their 12" range...for most players and on most boards this shouldnt be too hard to do. Of course there is the option of mounting the wraithgaurd in a wave serpent, however then the firepower is down to 5 cannons and still a very expensive unit with that serpent...

They can be good in melee, 3 up save, toughness, strength, initiative, and weapon skill 5, (with enhance) as mentioned they are slow so the only army I have seen this be effective is against nids that have virtually no ranged weaponry and leaping gaunts, gaunts rush to melee wraithguard sit there and sit there and sit there untill eventually the wraithguard are victorious. So basicly they're practicly useless. For the same cost ($ and points wise) you can get twice the fire dragons for tanks or elites, and twice the scorps/banshees for melee.
