Hey everyone.
I'm going down to our local games club this Saturday for a Combat Patrol with my friend who plays Space Marines. I'm buying some Guardians off another friend who got nothing but them for Christmas for next to nothing. ;D I'm also getting a Farseer from the shop. Slot 'em in the bases and away we go. I'm even taking my gluing kit tommorow when I buy the Guardians so I can get them glued in time. So... here's my list! Sorry about this, but I'm breaking a rule here. I know it says in the Eldar codex that you HAVE to take a weapon platform in your squad of Guardians, but unfortunately I won't have any. I'm sure my opponent won't mind... So stop shouting at me! 16 Guardians Another 16 Guardians Farseer with Guide, Mind War, Doom, Spirit Stones, Singing Spear. Comes to slightly less than 400 points. The Plan is to join my Farseer up with one of the Guardian squads, Mind War any Heavy Bolters I see, Doom the squads about to be shot, and Guide my own units. I'll use only 2 Psychic Powers a turn, in accordance with the rules. Preferably Guide and Doom after I've gotten rid of a few Heavy Bolters. So, is my plan Airtight? Or at least Watertight? Or mabye Space-Marine tight? Thanks. -Lord of the Pit 8) PS: Sorry about the frivolity of my post. I'm in a hurry and I don't know how else to put it. :'( |

Well... you can't use a farseer in a 400 point game...

And secondly, Guardians must take a heavy weapons platform. If you're serious about going up against this guy with that, you're about to get pummeled if Guardians is all you're using - take a Starcannon if you have it. That'll put the hurt on at least one squad, if you manage to hit with it...
..good luck, dude, it doesn't sound promising.

Call off the game?
If you at least had two warlocks with conceal and two starcannon platforms you could maybe keep it close (but I doubt you'll win) but at this rate this game will get real ugly real fast.

Well they'll take out a good number of your guys seeing they have heavy bolters and all you have are troops...36" vs 12"
I'm not seeing anything good going to happen, they outgun you by far. You need some heavier guns.

well if you are taking defender guardians then yes you need to take a heavy weapon platform, just ask the store if they have one you can use. or if not take them as the other guardins(forgot their name) they have a close combat weapon and pistol, on top of that they dont require a heavy weapon platform. But then does make your shooting even worse off then before.
If you dont mind proxying then play them as dire avengers, better shooting 18" range blade storm, exarch with power weapon or an extra shuricat might help you abit more~ but good luck none the less

Ya. You can probably convince the person you just put some guardian heads that came with the old Avengers (I did that with my old avengers by accident.)

'Storm Guardians' don't need a weapon platform if I recall (I don't use them but I am pretty sure). If you go that route, I would suggest splitting one or both of your guardian squads just to get an extra score unit in there. Sadly, yeah the farseer is technically not allowed on combat patrol, he has more than 2 wounds. If your buddy doesn't have a problem with it just ignore that restriction and go for it. If he does (some players can be pretty stickly about the rules) you can always use your farseer miniature as a Warlock to lead a guardian squad.

Okay, to be more articulate for my views on this game:
Barring the fact that the farseer is quite illegal, you'll have to be very careful with your guardians. The only time when they have an advantage over the marines is the very tenuous period where they're within 12 inches but before they get charged in combat. Overall, you'll have a single turn to try to put some serious hurt on the the marines before they charge in. Prey that your friend is very tactically inept and will come at you with one squad at a time (this may very well happen if he wants that heavy bolter to keep on shooting). Stick one of your guardian squads infront to recieve any charges, and the other one maybe 6 inches behind. If his single squad is sufficiently depleted when he charges you, consider charging in your farseer to help out with that combat. You'll end up tying him up for a long time and effectively putting that squad of marines out of the game; unless he has a vet sarge with a powerfist, which is another can of worms completely. If he charges in with a full strengthed tactical squad, or, god forbids, more than one squad, pull your farseer and guardians back for another round of shuriken fire. A viable tactic might be to hug an area terrain for cover saves and force him to come to you. You'll suffer from the heavy bolters, but not as much, and he'll probably run out of patience and come for you. At which time shuriken out of the terrain by staying within 6 to the edge and then move back when he's about to assault. With any hope he'll fail the terrain test and you can charge him instead. But yeah, sorry to say but you could be a tactical genius and he could be an underachieving ape and there's little chance you'll win this game.

Eldar armies are Aspect warrior reliant for a reason :-X. Without Exarchs, or even some warlocks, your chances aren't very existent. My first game was similar to the one you're mentioning, so don't get discouraged with the outcome, just pick yourself up, buy a tank and try again :P
