Default War Walkers

To put it simply what do people think about them?

To be honest I have never been too fond of War Walkers. Yes they do have two heavy weapons and the original model is fairly cheap, but their armour is so weak that they just get killed too easily for my liking, even with their energy field - plus the fact that they're opentopped. Even massed fire from troops can take them down. Usually though one well placed hit from one high strength weapon is all it takes - and then that's a good 80-120 point model down the drain. It also has only an average BS, meaning that only about the half the shots it fires hit anyway. Does anyone else feel the same way I do.

Alternatively if you don't, feel free to educate me.

i definatley prefer to mount heavy weapons on vypers instead, stil fragile, but cheaper and mroe mobile, if a little less firepower. As with any unti in the eldar amry, a nice 3 man team of warwalkers can shine, especially in smaller point games where they can carry an obscene amount of heavy weps, either suited for anti troop, marine or vehicle situations.

I recognise their possible advantages, but give me a vyper squad any day!

honestly I dont see a 80-100pt WW being as good as a 65pt Starcannon vyper, the vyper just offers cheaper and more mobile HW.

yup, thats why they are a lot more popular than War Walkers. Given the fact they are fast attack too, (meaning armies like saim hann with just one HVS choice can take shedloads) often is a benefit as you save your heavy slots for falcons or wraithlords.

The increased mobility on the vyper not only allows it to have the edge over the war walker in mobility, but also survivability. Keep the vyper moving 12" a turn (who wouldnt!) and it becomes a pain to kill, even at armour 10 and open topped!

Especially when you give it spirit stone and holofield ;D
However that would be expensive and probably only Saim Hann can really afford to do it.

But anyway back on topic - anyone out there who likes war walkers?

that would kill the point, you can have 4 vypers in combat patroll, thats 4 vypers and 3 JB for 400pts, making them more expensive kills the point.

one thing thats good about them is to get 3 with SCs and guide them. Thats 10.25 dead marines right there! But then they get wasted next turn.
