I play Tau currently and i was wondering how you can defeat a 500 point eldar army with a 500 point tau army. I currently have 24 fire warriors. 1 xv8 crisis commander as an HQ. 16 kroot. 6 vespids. 1 devil fishy. 3 sv15 stealth suits. I dont plan to use all of it all for it is slightly over 500 points. I would like to know a strategy against eldar. I decided to go straight to the eldar players for this question. Caz the tau players were no help at all.

That depends entirely on what the Eldar army consists of.
Because you see, Eldar are extremely powerful when put into the right situation, but extremely weak when put into the wrong situation. So once we have a little more info we can help you more. |

Ok, This army has a decent amount of gaurdiens. a few rangers. 1 viper. a wraith walker thing and a far seer. not a big one but devistating. i hope that was detailed enough for a better description on how to take them on.
thanks ShasLa |

easiest thing: just shoot them up.
only scary thing there is wraith lord, which is strong, 3 wounds and high toughness with heavy weapon. rangers: with chances of ap1 shot. farseer, depends, but can instant kill your character, viper is easy to shoot down, guardians are weak, but their weapon platform is only thing taht's scary. By the looks of it, the army is all on foot except viper. just shoot them as they come towards you. |

The thing I'm afraid of is timing. i no the viper moves fast so if he gets the viper and the right timing then he might take out a couple tau. in my past few experiences a few tau can win a game
i was also wondering if there are any long range weapons that i can take it out with. also what could i take that wraith lord out with without using my fire warriors.Appreciate the help, ShasLa |

I like to give my commander a fusion blaster, plasma rifle and shield genn with Hard wired multi tracker. That will let you put some wounds on the wraith lord once it gets close enough to really be a threat and the vespid can join you in finishing it off. You can also give a fusion blaster to the stealths that will help. Otherwise even the pulse rifles will be good at knocking down that vyper its armor is as as low as you can get. Fast it is but its main weapons will only really be a threat to heavy infantry like your commander, the stealths and your tank. Depending what its equipped with. Otherwise just use your Firewarriors, keep em all with pulse rifles and let the guardians have it. Unless those guardians are in cover your rifles will cut right through them and even the modest balistic skill of Firewarriors will do the job well. Also his farseer could be troublesome but a squad or two of small arms fire will be more than enough to finish him off. Should be no trouble for you at all just sit back and make him come to you and use your longer range to let him have it.
And btw Im a Tau player... |

Alright, well, If the eldar player knows what he's doing, he will be using those guardians supported by the rangers as a fire-base, which he will use to hold his own flanks. Don't just think you'll be able to 'shoot them as the come towards you' because that army isn't really going to advance at all. As long as he has his heavy weapons he totally out-guns you. If you lay enough fire into those guardian and ranger squads you should be able to tactically out-maneuver him.

You asked if there was a long range weapon you could shoot them down with? Why not get a broadside or hammerhead? That should take care of the wraithlord no problem, and with the range on the railgun they will never be able to shoot back at it.
