Default Dilemma

Simple question:

I really like dark reapers, but how do i stop them getting shot down in the first turn in the 4th edition?

well, starting them in a waveserpent or falcon could work, or failing that put them behind troops to force a Ld check to shoot them but not much can be done. use terrain to sheild them from a lot of LOS and they should be fine.

Placing them in cover can be a good idea, I've had mine move forward to a powerful position on top of a building (can move up as much as you move horizontally in 4th ed), only to be mowed down by a unit of kroot. From shooting.

Giving the enemy a bigger headache is a really good idea, if he's worried about that wraithlord instead (wraithlord and reapers, stop here and look for the fire prisim), then he's not going to be shooting your reapers.

Since I play Marines and Eldar I have the interesting perspective of hating and loving Reapers. They are always a primary target for me. Cover will reduce the incidence of heavy bolters and the like from just mowing them down where they stand but it won't do a whole lot to keep them from being bolter smashed. As far as I can figure your best bet is to stick them in cover AND put a unit in front of them. It's the best you can do in the new rules.
