Default WWI style russ idea from the box

I have always thought the guard would be more of a WWI style army, with trenches and such, but there tanks dont show this. I have been tossing around the idea of traitor guard recently and decided to come up with a plan for how I would build a russ. This is what I came up with (pic copied and photoshoped from IA1)

I would add trench rails to the back of the tank aslo.

My problems are the hull mounted weapon cant go on the hull because that would stop the tank from being able to climb out of a trench (thats why its sloped that way if you didnt know). I also dont know how the russ goes together so im not sure how easy this would be. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts on this?

I think that it's a really good idea!

For the front mounted weapon, you should do it at the top of the Russ, just under the turret inbetween the tracks, I've not built a russ, so I'm not entirely sure this will work, but it should do.

If you're looking for some Trench Rails, the Death Korps Of Krieg section in Forgeworld supply these here! scroll down till you see the header Leman Russ Trench Rails, or you could by a Leman Russ with Trench Rails included with air filters, again, scroll down till you see some Leman Russes, you can choose between an Alpha Pattern, or a Phaeton Pattern.

The problem is, the front sticks out at quite an angle - I reckon it'd look too top-heavy if it was done like that. Plus I'm not sure if it'd be possible anyway. If you're going for the WWI look you could just use a Malcador - the Battle Cannon variant is armed in exactly the same way as a standard Leman Russ apart from the little gun on the front, which could easily be converted to a Heavy Bolter/Lascannon mount.

Your right, it looks a bit to top heavy. The malcador looks a bit to big to work as a russ (no matter how under sized I think the russ is). Hmm, I guess I could just change it so the tracks keep going at the same angle in the front instead of sloping back inward. Then cover the top tracks so I wont need to buy some extras. I can keep the hull the same shape that way also so I would only need to cut the las cannon a bit shorter. Maby I could also extend the back a bit so it looks more like a tadpole (make it less of an angle and extend the bottom basically)

Now I could see that working. You wouldn't have a very big area to convert and wouldn't need to change the main hull - just a few strips of thick plasticard with the appropriate rivets and other details added ought to do it. The back would be a lot harder to do, but I reckon that it'd certainly be possible to do what you're suggesting to the front. I say go for it! ;D

Actually, if it's WWI you're looking for, the old British tanks look a lot like a Land Raider. Just turn it around so that the "back" is the new "front" and get the weapons to point in the new direction.

Here's a picture.

This is the "male" version of the tank. It has a six pound gun on each side. The "female" version only had machine guns.

Touche. :P

Just an idea. Somebody else might have a landraider lying around that they never had the time to build. Then they'll see this post and say "oh wow what a great idea."

...right.
