Yes, anything you don't want the stuff to stick to, wet it down. Otherwise you wind up with bits of the stuff stuck to everything including the table. It also pays to go slowly, only using a little at a time, say the size of a pea. It's better to doa little, let it dry then do the next bit. Try to do to much and you run the chance of putting your fingers in your nicely done work as you handle things.

GW has an excellent GS tutorial somewhere on their website.
I can't remeber where exactly it it, it might even be in a Black Gobbo, but it is there somewhere. And yes, get a sculpting tool. |

1. be sure to mix it 50/50 so you get a solid putty to work with.
2. use either water or oil so that it doesnt stick to all and nothing. If you use water, put a small amout of water on ti, several times! 3. draw scetches of the things or make it in paper first, and then go over to the GS. This is to avoid the stuff you make to big or to small. 4. let the GS settle for about 15-30 min before you work with it. As it is when you just mixed it, it will be to loose for working with. 5. to smooth out any fingerprints, just dabb a finger in water and gently roll it over the area, until the print is gone!
