Im thinking of doing a cold one conversion to makes some cheaper rough riders for my guard army.

Any suggestions?

What suggestions do you need? Buy a box of Cold One Riders, buy a box of Guardsmen, and do it =) it should be fine. If you're worried about legs then just use the Rough Rider legs.

Failing that, sculpt legs

ive been working myself through several other projects to get to something like this, i was considering getting the box of cold ones, now that they look more like velociraptors, and using the empire general's legs, as they are suitably plain and dont have too much armour, just greaves which could be painted into a leathery effect. the only trouble with that idea is that its difficult to get hold of five empire general legs, i believe you can get them from here

ive found it useful for other bits too, but one of the wonders of onverting is the freedom, its your choice ultimately.

Actually... Use a box of catachans as the riders. A little GS work will make the legs fit in well...


Have a look at the old Catachan Codex, there is one converted in there.

Ive started on a first test model and so far it all seems alright.
The cold one is also a real joy to paint.
The best thing about the kits is you can cut and paste most of the bits ;D.
Keep the ideas coming and i'll post the results.

Sounds like a plan, i will try and pick one of those up (if my workshop has one)
