(Following today's trends of broadside conversions - unfortunately this one isn't as much of a conversion.. just different placement of guns :S)
Aquired a new broadside recently - constructed it yesterday. As my first broadside was very prone to breaking at the ankles, perhaps due to it's top-heavy-ness caused by railguns - I decided to build this second broadside slightly differently.. Namely - railguns on arms, and secondary weapons on shoulders (this time I can choose between TL Plasma's or a Smart Missile System (which shall come in the form of some converted vehicle missile pods). Not as awesome as the Forgeworld XV88-2s, and very, very limited in terms of poses by the model limits - but it's a lot more balanced and distributed in terms of weight than the normal build of broadsides. ![]() - The broadside beside an (unpainted) XV89, and it's taller brother - the aforementioned first XV88. (Sorry for pic quality - webcam until I paint it up - where the quality etc is really needed :S) ![]() Construction remains the same, appears to be strong enough without pinning etc. Railguns are superglued onto the arms seperately, then after that is set, the arms are glued on. Everything else is the same as normal broadside/crisis suits. Currently still contemplating though, whether it needs some leg supports (for this to count as a real conversion lol) - burst cannon barrels would be useful here.. And the target locks are on the guns because I was going for a mech-ish/gundam-esque look and feel.. (probably more mech-like though - with big SMS's on the shoulders..) .mace

I've always been a fan of switching the two weapons systems. Putting the rail guns on the shoulders always seemed like a horrible place for them. On their own aim able arms always made much more sense.
Nice clean conversion, simple and efficient. |

It's very nice! I've always tought that the railguns look way better on the arms than on the shoulders.

More pics, taken really quickly..
I decided to add some Pods for the Smart Missile System - though due to my lack of enough spare missile pods, and a need to make it shoulder mountable AND removable (ruling out cutting up the Broadside SMS arms and gluing them on) - I made my own, out of spare fusion blasters and burst cannons. Altogether, used 2 Fusion Blasters and 1 Burst cannon per pod. Just cutting them up, and glueing them together, with a lot of filing and then some drilling. ![]() ![]() Each 'pod' is made from 6 pieces - the two rear halves of a burst cannon, on either side at the back - just to add some weight to it, the rear section of a fusion blaster in the rear center - this allows it to the attached to the slots on the broadside, and for the front section, the middle part of the barrel on either side, and in the middle - the end bit of the barrel that has the slots in it. Overall it's slightly larger than two missile pods stuck together or the stock SMS's. Fluffwise I've seen the SMS to fire a large number of small missiles rather than the larger ones that the Missile Pods have..

Very nice the SMS actually looks like it has enough room for spare ammo so it does not runout after firing once(I had always wondered about that). Anyway very nice. I think many GW stores (if they have an in store Tau army) are converting their broadsides to look like that I know mine has.
