Default Startup Glitch?

Whenever I start my PC up it only goes to a certain point, and then I have to turn it off and then on again and then it will work. Its only a minor inconvenience but if its fixable..... If you want more details on what it does just ask and I'll get them as soon as I can.

If you could get the exact error, it'll make a world of difference in repairing this issue. I would recommend popping in a Linux live-cd, which are godsends for diagnosis, but that's easier said than done.

Also, perhaps some other questions?

1) Have you made any system changes to hardware lately?

2) Have you made any changes to software, drivers, or settings lately?

3) Downloaded anything of dubious health or security?

Well, I just built it out of spare parts lying around, although it is a new windows install. And since we just built it, all of the drivers, software etc have just been downloaded, but as far as I know none of it has had any viruses.

I have this same issue with my laptop. Its an XPS M1210 and the exact time it runs into trouble is loading the OS. It just stays at a black screen. restart it once or twice and it corrects itself. You can still start it in safe mode without fail.

I thought about it and decided I might just back up my data and wipe my laptop and see if that fixes the problem. Sometimes you have to do that to keep a laptop in the best working order. But seems someone with a desktop has the same issue. To answer your questions:

1) Not really..

2) does uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting a large amount count?

3) hmm...

what do you think...

Haha, barring a hostile pr0n takeover of your b0x0rz, I think it might be an issue with the MBR or perhaps mis-matched hardware? I've worked on machines where the MBR said one thing and the hardware said the other and it turned into a power on/restart, power on/restart, power on/use Windows normally routine.

Anything freaking out in the device manager?
