Default Internet Explorer Vs Mozilla (Firefox)

Which one do you use?

i've been using IE for ages, and just had firefox sitting on my comp unused.. now that the new version has come out.. and i love it :P

another thing i've noticed, these forums load way faster (images cached etc) and also TO has its own icon thing in the address bar ;D

I use Firefox apart from when I'm testing site designs for browser compatibility (Then I have to use IE..!) Firefox is much faster IMO and is generally a better browser.

Loads faster? Meh on my comp, Firefox is the slower one... Mind u it could just be IE and XP (I use Win 98 SE). I don't tend to notice any difference in browsing other then my keyboard trick of switching apps fast (I'm a keyboard fanatic and do almost everything by keyboard when it comes to using comps) then I find that Firefox is just a pain in the butt coz the [Alt]+[Tab] doesn't work.

I prefer Firefox for security reasons and also tab-based browsing. Firefox also has a minor edge in loading things in at speed, and when you tell it to delete cookies, it does.

Meh if i want to clear out my cache i just go to c:\windows\Temp. internet files\ but thats not very often coz it takes ages because of the thousands of files that sort of just get stored there. I think is the major draw back to this emphassis on web designers to make everything as small as possible (coz of download speeds and all) so that when ppl start surfing the web and the settings in the cache allow thousands of files to accumulate ..

Anyway I'm going off on a tangent here. Tabbed interface? that what makes it a pain in the butt for me (for the reasons given in my post above).

It is really incomprehensible how bad Internet Explorer is. That is a browser that just plain sucks. I used Netscape back in the old days (early 90s), then went back to IE for awhile. As soon as Mozilla came out, I jumped on it and realized just how superior it was. I've been using FireFox since the first version of 'Phoenix' (then it became Firebird, then it became Firefox).

There is no justifiable reason to use Internet Explorer - none whatsoever. Firefox is faster, slimmer, gives you tabbed browsing, incredible amounts of extensions (I use my GMail checker extension constantly), mouse gestures, you name it. Moreover, it's community-driven, not coded by the Evil Empire.

Switch to FireFox NOW! For the Greater Good!

Not on my computer it isn't faster... It's slower in fact. Must be my configuration or something :P. The trouble is most ppl won't give FireFox a go coz they can't be asked setting up another browser (and believe me I have like 5 on this machine atm, IE 6, Firefox, Lynx (man this ones fast but text only), Netscap 6 and the other one can't remember)

Why on Earth would you still have Netscape on your computer? From what you're telling me, I have a damned good idea of why your computer is so slow. And if you're talking about load time, yes, Mozilla/Firefox is slower to load the browser itself on slower machines. But once it's loaded, it handles pages MUCH better than IE (unless they're loaded with ActiveX idiocy). Plugins can handle most of what is IE-specific.

And seriously, FT, it sounds to me like you either need a good upgrade or, more probably, start deleting a bunch of sh*t off your machine, I bet there's software on there you haven't even run in 6 months. >

Your probably right there, hmmm, Microsoft Access can go... and every other browser except for IE (website designers need at least one copy of it otherwise they could be shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to compatability) & FireFox, oh and that trail version of Flash can go (haven't even installed it yet :P). But the rest I use regularly..

And your right there, it does need a decent upgrade... lol (not the OS, just the hardware :P).
