He's half right. Page 90 of the BOB, under Scoring Unit section; Troop units that has the Swarm USR cannot hold objectives.

Don't worry too much about it- our group doesn't really play with objectives.

Would an easy fix be to replace a couple of the nurgling units with PBs or would that not be effective?

It'd still be effective - I just like the thought of a walking carpet of tiny death.

This is some great advice. =D I'm going to have to rethink how I have been playing daemons.

I know what you mean, since it was actually the first thing I thought of when I saw nurglings.

From my experience, Plague Bearers and Pink Horrors are the best at holding objectives. Pink Horrors are my personal favorite (remember, I play mono-Tzeentch) because instead of just being useless place holders, they can also deal a decent amount of damage. Being able to move 6 then shoot 18 is fantastic, allowing them to constantly back up while pouring out 3 shots per model.

Unless in a bunker, Pink Horrors gain no benefit from cover, meaning they are best used on objectives out in the open. You might as well put an objective out there seeing as you gain no benefit from cover, already having a 4+ invulnerable save. This way if your opponent tries to take it, he'll be left out in the open, letting your AP4 warpfire, AP3 Daemonic Gaze and battle cannon Soul Grinder-Phlegm obliterate their troops.

Plague bearers and Pink Horrors also make the best icon holders because they are the most survivable. Daemonettes and Bloodletters suffer from 5+ invulnerable saves, and for Daemonettes, 3 Toughness. These both should be doing as much damage as possible and contesting or capturing your opponents objectives, not sitting at home doing absolutely nothing.

While nurglings are great, no scoring means they only have one use; killing the enemy. Since they aren't really that great at killing the enemy, they gain a secondary goal of slowing the enemy down. That is where the nurglings shine. Assault some poor 5-10 man tactical squad with 10 bases-30 wounds of nurglings and consider that objective contested.

The idea behind my Nurgling list is Epi and only Epi. Swarm the enemy with as many nurglings as possible, use kugath to "spike" kill and then let those worthless little nurglings run around with power weapons whilst a plague bearer unit or two sit on the objective.
