Hi all,

I'm looking to start up a Nugle Daemon force. I will build it up in blocks of 500pts with the aim to get the 1st 500pts painted before moving on to the next one.

At this stage there are two basic ideas I'm working with being:

HQ: Herald (minimal upgrades)
HVY: Daemon Prince
Troops: As many Plague Bearers as will fit the points limit.

OR

HQ: Greater Daemon
Troops: As many Plague Bearers as will fit the points limit.

Which is likely to be most playable at this points limit, or are there any other suggestions on composition, I want to stick with Nurgle-Marked models as I'd like to bring in Epidermus at some point in the future.

(as an aside do you think Epidermus could be used at this level? I'm hoping to have him by the time I reach 1,000 pts, but I'm not sure on him at this level)

I would go with option 2; the Greater Daemon and plaguebearers. As big of a Nurgle fan as I am, I really don't think there's much flexibility with a pure Nurgle list at 500 points. The Greater Daemon will give you some anti-tank support(if it's really even needed) and there's probably not alot at that point level that can take him out. Plus he's the cheapest GD and one of the best!

The plaguebearers can just swamp objectives and try and win a war of attrition. You may also want to get some nurglings since they're cheap points wise and can tie up units and contest objectives.

Once you build up to 1,000 points I would add 2 Daemon Princes with MoN and Epidemus. With the remaining points just add more plaguebearers. You're going to rely on those DPs to rack up the tally quickly, so you need them to get in combat as soon as possible and cause as many wounds as they can quickly.

So what are your thoughts on upgrades for the Greater Daemon and Lesser Daemons?

For the Greater Daemon I quite like the Breath of Chaos and Aura of Decay, though I'm not sure it's worth spending that many points which could be funnelled into more Lesser Daemons.

For the Lesser Daemons I don't think any of the upgrades are worth it at this points level.

The question:
Get some upgrades for the HQ and fewer Troops (maybe 2 squads of 10)?
OR
Concentrate on just getting as many bodies onto ground as possible (2 squads of 11 or split into 3 squads)

Will I be better off with 2 extra Plaguebearers?

What are your thoughts - experienced Daemon players?
