Default Dan Abnett question

Although I love his gaunt's ghosts books and think they are amazing, does he deliberately make mistakes, such as calling the Dire Avenger's gun a shrieker cannon in the book Ghostmaker?

I think it's a combination of older fluff and artistic license. The Shrieker Cannon dates back from 2nd edition and somewhat resembled a shuriken cannon in it's appearance. I'm guessing Mr. Abnett thought that it was a logical progression from the catapults used by the normal avengers and decided if an avenger would have an upgraded gun, that would be it.

However, I think I'll move this over to the Black Library section.

I believe it's largely artistic license, in "Brothers of the Snake" he describe a marine having a plasma gun instead of a plasma cannon simply because using "gun" flowed better.

Abnett is not always very good at keeping to the original material, preferring to make up his own stuff in many cases.

Although, the shrieker cannon was used by Death Jesters, not your average Joe.

Indeed. The retro cannon did make a limited return in the current eldar book.

I don't know if original material's quite the right phrase, in my opinion. I'd say he doesn't always stick to the established material. I enjoy that he seems to embrace the whole "million worlds" line, especially in books like the Eisenhorn's, Brothers of the Snake, or, more recently, Titanicus where we see some rather fascinating vistas and very different ways of doing things.

Yes, and then GW basically rewrote the Imperial Guard to fit Abnett's image. Try to remember that .

And then they rewrote it again, discarding all of that and going back to their own characters and themes. Try to remember that.

Funny, the term "Vox Caster" is still used in the Codex...
