Default Best of the BL!

Greetings BL enthusiasts! I have a simple request for you all today:
Tell me, in your opinions, which are the best books, 40k, Fantasy, and anything in between, that have been published by the BL.

*On a side note, any opinions on Titanicus by Dan Abnett?

Fixed that for you.

I like all of the Horus Heresy series except the Abyss.

I also love anything by Dan Abnett or Graham Mcneil.

Well lets see the Best would be IMO:

The Cain Series
Angels of Darkness
The Space Wolves Series
Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames, Flight of the Eisenstein and Mechanicum from the Horus Heresy series.
The Imperial Guard series.
Rogue Star, Star of Damocles
Scourge of Heretics
The first two Omnibus' of the Gaunt's Ghosts series.
Assault on Black Reach.

Things to NOT read:

Battle for the Abyss and Descent of Angels from the HH series.
The Blood Angel Series.
The Ultramarines Series (unless your a die hard Ultras fan)
The Grey Knights Series
The Deathwatch Series
The Soul Drinkers Series

Once again at odds with Vash on this one, I think the Ultramarine's series was great. It gives awesome outlooks on adeptus arbites, dark eldar, imperial life, and planets in the EoT. If you get past the fact that Ventris was a great space marine and a terrible Ultramarine, then it's a great series.

It's not like he wasn't punished for being a bad Ultramarine...

I enjoyed the Ultramarines series, actually. Graham McNeill managed to make the boys in blue mildly interesting, and the stories themselves were great even if the chapter isn't.

[spoiler]The Nightbringer being scared of a Melta bomb was a bit lame, though...[/spoiler]

My favorite, thus far, has been most of the Horus Heresy series (with one or two exceptions which weren't great but nevertheless enjoyable reads) and Soul Drinkers. Only just started reading Blood Angels and it seems quiet good. I also really liked the short story compilations, like Let the Galaxy Burn; not by any one author but a huge variety of some fun stories...

Also, stay away from Dan Abnett. :P

The Ultramarines books did give some interresting insights into other groups but the books were meant to be an "ULTRAMARINES" Series and all in all McNiell failed miserably to write good novels on the Ultramarines, the Ultras are an awesome Chapter with a wealth of background information and a long and glorious history and yet McNiell makes them out to be a bunch of rigid, unimaginative chumps trying to hold back the young, and rebellious Ventris. It's like a bad teen angst series or TV show, and doesn't make for good fluff.

The Soul Drinkers and Blood Angels series were horrid, horrid, absolutely horrid when it comes to fluff. Both series showed an utter lack of anything resembling research on the part of the author. The Blood Angel series even mentions THOUSANDS of Blood Angels marching around... :. And the Soul Drinkers series tries to shoehorn the Soul Drinkers in as a 2nd Founding Chapter, which makes NO sense fluff wise.

The Deathwatch and Grey Knights series weren't much better, the Grey Knights are the militant arm of the Ordo Hereticus? ???

If you want good BL books Abnett is the best, Titanicus and Brothers of the Snake particularly IMO.

The Eisenhorn series was by far my favorite, while the Ravenor novels tied in with each other to form a very well done plot (if a little predictable in the last chapter or two, but that's a good thing).

Coincidently, they're both about the Inquisition & they're both by Dan Abnett...

The 1[sup]st[/sup] Grey Knights book was okay, the 2[sup]nd[/sup] was good, but Hammer of Daemons was awful. Ben Counter could have easily done that from the view of a Guardsman, gangsta, etc., but having the character as a Grey Knight just ruined the whole thing.

The Ravenor series was alright, I dunno for some reason I didn't enjoy it too much but they were solid enough reads. I can't seem to bully my way through the Eisenhorn trilogy though, I'm not sure why...

Eisenhorn is my favorite model by miles.

Horus heresy is nice, but nothing beats eisenhorn i can honestly re-read it over and over and over again.

I love it that much.
Next is to get an eisenhorn and cherubael 54mm model. I have to own sculpts of them.
