It was great from the start, the characters were very well described, as were the beliefs and organisation of the Word Bearers. The fight scenes were my favorite, with intense, gripping descriptive mayhem I honestly believed that Dark Apostle would claim Storm of Iron's title as best Chaos orientated novel, but then came the ending. Bland, boring and unimaginative, the ending totally defiled the book and left it on a not so well placed cliffhanger. The end was totally unoriginal, and felt as though it was whipped up in a hurry. Sorry, but Dark Apostle had the potential to be great, but was ruined by a crappy ending.

But, my favorite character throughout the whole book had to be Coryphaus Kol Badar, he was so bad-ass! 8)

Liked it, storm of iron it is not though.

I really enjoyed the rather detailed look into the Adeptus Mechanicus warfighting tools and doctrine.

Hint of things to come?

Hope so.

Books about the bad guys are always a bit of a tough sell. Here's my quick good/bad.

The Good:
The interactions between the Admech and everyone else.
Details about how the hierarchy of the Word Bearers works.
The interaction between the Word Bearers and the cults.
The scale of events.
The battle descriptions.

The Bad:
Super-Doom Tech will destroy the Imperium!
Telling us the prophecy in the first 20 pages and then not deviating, save for the "twist".
The Titan.

Yes, I forgot, the titan thing was absolutely predictable.

Sad.

What striked me also, was that the Mechanicus had this huge artillery piece on tracks, and that it fired, some kind of... power?
