Default 40k Books

Which 40k book do you believe is the most well written? I was browsing the various ones at the store but can't afford to buy too many of them as my money is sucked into the models and such.

Anything about Ciaphas Kain is great. Such as Caves of Ice and For the Emperor. There are also short stories about him in Bringers of Death and What Price Victory.

Dan Abnett: Gaunts Ghosts. Wonderful series, though a bit wierd and sad at the end.

They are the grey warriors, ashen like the wolf, whose greatest joy is to hear the clamour of steel amidst the din of war. None can step before them, they are the first, proud in their strength and jealous of their renown. Through the storms of the warp they come, upon the very tides of terror, but of such dangers they are uncaring. They are the Space Wolves, the Undefeated, the bane of the Emperor's foes."

Avoid Inquisition War Trilogy and Firewarrior like the plague......the FW book just sounds stupid (never read it mind you) and the Inquisition War Trilogy is atrociously written (thought fascinating and inspiring, you can read it as background, not story)

Some 40k books aren't half bad, I think I really should read Dan Abnetts, but William King's novels i thought were alright.

Fire Warrior is not that great of a piece of literature, however given how little there is about the Tau all Tau players should read it.

I'd say go with Dan Abnett, William King, or Ben Counter

Got done with Fire Warrior and Space Wolf not too long ago. My next ones on the list are Harlequin(s) and the Thousand Sons one...
