I posted the battle report finally at:
http://forums.tauonline.org/index.ph...c,93939.0.html Fellow Tau, New hope rises from the battlefields of the Tyranid extermination campaigns. Aun'O Vior'la Lar'tra (I made up Lar'tra, sorry if it is not Tau kosher; Ethereal leader of the 327th Vior'la Infantry; 750 points of Fire Warriors and their Ethereal leader, for a 750 pt mission) led his honor guard in glorious hand to hand combat against two Lictor tyranids. Heavy losses were suffered by the 327th throughout the engagement, and even though the main objective was secured by the few remaining genestealer tyranids (went to ground... grrr, 3+ saves), we must remember that not even ferocious tyranid infestation can stand to the Greater Good! His infantry respectfully continue to refer to him as "Shas'Aun'O"... |

It would be nice if you followed the standard for battle reports. Just stating that you won isn't a battle report. You really need to post at least what happened in every turn, both army lists, and a description of the board.

Col Marksmen makes a valid point.
I'm glad to see other people seeing benefit to the Ethereal. When used right, they really can turn the tide in a game can't they ;D ![]() |

I agree with too, on what has been brought forward.
However I got bigger conserns on the game: 1) At 750 points you should -at the very least- abide with FoC and not use combat patrol rules. Meaning both army were not legal by what we can see.

I am going to add the disclaimer that I did not originally put this in Battle Reports... it was moved here. It was originally posted in the Tau forum. I was more so enamored with the fact that they actually pulled off that close combat.
Because I now look like a jerk for putting up a battle report with, well, no report, I will have to put some effort into making this a real report (edits to come). |

Also just real quick...
Tau military doesn't organize in the same way as Human militaries. In Human culture, we divide up the different groups of the military into same-sections. E.g. Rifle Regiments, Infantry Divisions, etc. Then we pull out different elements of these specialists and form a proper fighting force. But by keeping them separate, we allow their training and equipping be individual, and their deployment flexible. You might have a heavy tank squadron from 112th Whatever Division and have them support 105th Light Infantry Division and then add on the 63rd Mechanized Infantry Division. In Tau military culture, this thing is foreign. The cadre is made up of teams that are grouped together to form an "army" of sorts as we know it in 40k. They specifically have each group of teams together that carry their own varying equipment to combat different threats. While not necessarily as intricately flexible as the human military, they make up for it in broadened variants and training within teams, as well as superior mobility and simplicity. There is no gap between team and cadre, a cadre is a group of teams.

I'm sure there are situations when there are Fire Warriors in a force only, but they would still be part of a larger Cadre. A separate detachment perhaps with a specialized, temporary call sign, but no other.
