Default Monkeying with Terragen. UPDATE: "Mars one billion years ago"

Well, a lot of you have done it here, so I wanted to give it a try and play with it too. What do you think? Here are my first "landscapes":

Looks good. The "spires in the first one are distinctive but have a bit too much contrast (its probably just the light)

I love the caldera in the second one, that's a very neat idea.

The third one's very good but it looks a little like it's been rendered on under full detail (on the top). Also the little spit in the bottom left looks slightly out of place.

Oh well, they're all very good and at least for you, your sculpt tool works, for me it doesn't seem to do anything.

Thanks for the comments, Grand Seer.

To use the Sculpt Tool, click on "Landscape" on the left. Then you have the "Landscape" dialog. Click on "View/Sculpt" You should be able to see a black and white screen with your terrain (you can switch to colours if you want, on the top right) . Here you can place the camera. On the top you'll find two buttons. Click on "basic sculpting tool", it's the right one with the green hill on it (with the right one you switch back to "camera positioning"). Here you can choose the "tool size" and the "tool effect". Use the left mouse button to raise terrain, the right one to lower it.
Anyway, on the Terragen site, you can download the "Terrapainter", a nice aplication with some great sculpting tools. I've used it for the "caldera".

Here's another landscape I did yesterday.

They look like the backgrounds in Myst. That's a good thing.

They look very good, really.

Me : Pulp Fiction? Please, this amount of blood, can best be compared with 'showdown at the house of blue leaves' in Kill Bill 1.
T-002 : Sweet Charles Dickens, that much? It was a man, you know, not a 15-gallon barrel of blood...

The third picture actually took my breath away. They look frakking amazing, like Ineluki said, Myst-like

I might have to have a play with this later - does it take loads of skill to do, or could a philistine like myself have success?

It's pretty easy, just takes a little time to get the effect your looking for

Yeah, I know how to use it its just that until recently it didn't do anything. I'll look into that terrapainter.

Funny thing is, I can't seem to import the created terrains into Terragen itself lol. But then again, I've become pretty handy with Photoshop and can edit RAW files via Photoshop and import it into Terragen pretty easily myself
