The union flag just isn't enough I'm afraid.

Just curious but why not?
The current flag takes all three areas into consideration already.

Call me biased, but I don't see the point of breaking it down that much when the Americans of the site don't ask for individual state flags either even when some of the populations of our states might be triple what Scotland or Ireland might be.

Because the states in America aren't INDIVIDUAL COUNTRIES with a deep hatred love for one another. Ireland isn't even PART of the UK.

Asking the Scots to all unite under the Union Flag is like asking the Jews to unite under the Swastika.

Nothern Ireland is.

We in the UK like to be known as our own Nationality. The Scots dont like being refered to as English by some one who doesnt know the difference. and you be amazed how many other countries cant tell the difference in our accents.

I dont really mind the Union Flag (NOT Jack, before anyone suggests it) its good enough.

Ah Ha! Success

Thanks FT for the flags, I'll wear mine with pride. Here is a int: for you.

IIRC Ireland has its own national flag, its Northern Ireland that is assimilated in Her Majesty's Queendom. Scotland has not sought freedom after Braveheart, and Wales...well at least you have the Prince of Wales, a Horse lover [/sarcasm]

That's exaggerating the point quite a bit.

Furthermore, because they were recognized separately for the flags design is the very reason that it should be used. It's already taking the fact that there is more than just Britain under that flag.

I'm sorry if it sounds callous but I fail to empathize with someone who just wants a bigger flag to make themselves feel better when they are part of a perfectly good flag already.

I find it even more ludicrous making that big of a deal out of it when the populations are so low. My state alone carries over twice the estimated number of people in Scotland and Ireland combined. Yet, you don't see we Americans whining about being just a star in the flag we help to make up and demanding our state flag.

TO members are generally a bit more intelligent. Trust us to know the difference.

[hr]

So it boils down to part of Ireland wanting their own flag then? My original point stands. :

I don't think any Brits are really bothered about it. Im suprise some of you Americans are kicking up fuss though, don't you have all kids of odd sounding rules about your flag?:P

http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagcode.htm

Surely that little picture is against the rules as its not an Actual Flag? ;D

Who is kicking up a fuss from our side?
I'm merely questioning the need for a flag whose country already makes up part of one. So far the only real answer I've seen has been for egos.

Yes, it is true we have strange customs to those outside of the States, but what of it Jayne? Surely you are forgetting that we also have the fun little law of freedom of expression, that's also assuming (if your comment meant anything) that TO is suddenly under American laws with regards to freedom of speech and expression, which it isn't.
