Default What Qualifies the term 'Alien'?

Quote:
1. Owing political allegiance to another country or government; foreign: alien residents.
2. Belonging to, characteristic of, or constituting another and very different place, society, or person; strange. See Synonyms at foreign.
3. Dissimilar, inconsistent, or opposed, as in nature: emotions alien to her temperament.
n.
From an online dictionary... But surely that would just mean anything not human or different to us? Surely the Ordos Xeno inquisitors should be running around swatting flies and spiders and stuff aswell as eldar, orks and other aliens....

What say you?

I say that you are either being willfully ignorant, or trolling.

"Alien" clearly refers to sentient life that is non-human in origin. The Ordo Xenos also deals with non-sentient, or debatably sentient aliens with enough killing power to wipe out a small town.

The modern definition of Alien, as employed by normal people, is "originating on another planet". It is reasonable to assume the definition can be changed for a space-faring Humanity to "originating on a planet we don't occupy."

Strictly speaking, any non-human extraterrestrial falls into the purview of the Ordo Xenos. It's just that some of them, mostly non-sentient creatures like the Grox, are deemed safe to deal with/use. Others, like Eldar and even occasionally Orks, are in the category of 'useful enemies'. There's actually very few that fall in the category of Xenos Horribilis and must be killed on sight.

No, the Ordo Xenos do not deal specifically with daemons (that is the Malleus' job), though of course certain aliens do openly or unwittingly consort with daemons and other forces of Chaos.
