Default tau armor question

Can tau pathfinders swim or even stealth suits? Or an XV8. Their armor is said to be light but how light is it?

I really might incorporate it into some fluff I may write.

Pathfinder probably. I,m sure a soldier or cop is able to swim with thier basic body armour...and viking were said to be able to swim with chain armour.

Stealth suit and XV-8 doubtful, although they might be able to walk at the bottom if it's not too deep to crush them.

It's made by ultar-dense nanocrystalline metal and thermal set molecular polythene. So sounds pretty light to me!

I don't know if they swim or what, but stealth suits are able to move through water. One of the Apocalypse formations mentions battlesuits popping out of a pond and surprising the heck out of some orks. I think it's the formation where a stealth team infiltrates, then several suit teams including broadsides deepstrike in, don't scatter, and all their weapons become pinning in the round they appear.

It's actually a pretty worthless formation, but there's a definite justification for amphibious battlesuits.

I agree, they probably kill:
10 orks, 10 gaunts or 10 guardsman at max... then next round all those expensives suits are going kapoot!!!

as per the new apoc. book we know that Crisis suits are amphibious- I would assume Stealths are as well.

Correct! Knight, the stealths were the invisible ones that surprised the Orks in the formation fluff while the XV8's burst from the water.

Our fluff gives us armor much lighter than Imperial Flak, so if there is any fluff saying they could swim, it's likely FW's could (though I imagine that metal dinner plate would inhibit the side stroke).

Actually the dense part means it would sink like a really big stone as it would be alot heavier.

Not necessarily. Density is usually associated with weight, but it actually is just the word defining a high mass to volume ratio.
Because the Tau armor composition in fluff is stronger than the Imperial counterpart pound-for-pound- as well as the Dark Heresy rules mechanics we know (giving carapace weights and rough protection levels)- we can confidently be sure that a Fire warriors armor gives equivalent protection to Imperial Carapace Armor at a greatly reduced weight, or if it's added on greater protection at the same weight levels.

And it's actually density that determines your buoyancy. If you're denser than water, you sink. If you're less dense, you float.
