Default Preheresy Question

Ok, a question about preheresy.

What did Chaos use preheresy? Was it just alot of Daemons?

Are there any preheresy army lists out there? For that matter, armies?

Did chaos fight the imperium before the heresy? Because I cant find much fluff to say they did...

I'm not an expert on this field (so I may be wrong), but I'll attempt to answer as best I can.

I'm sure that some of the multitude of alien races in the galaxy would have been tempted to follow the Dark Gods. Their were humans on various worlds who were servants of Chaos as well. Nothing of the calibre of the Chaos Space Marines however.

Are there any preheresy army lists out there? For that matter, armies?

Not to my knowledge. Not official ones at any rate (I think there have been some fan - made ones)

Did chaos fight the imperium before the heresy? Because I cant find much fluff to say they did...

Yes. Not nearly to the same scale as they did now, but the Forces of Chaos were an enemy during the Great Crusade. I can remember one of the Primarchs was found on a Chaos - controlled world......

Q 1) I agree with Faolin's answer

Q 2) I remember seeing a Pre-heresy Ultramarines force in the Space Marines Collectors Guide Pages 76 - 77.

Q 3) Again I agree with Faolin's answer

So because they didnt have CSM, would they have used different Daemons to fill there roll? If so, what where they, if not, why hasnt someone made one yet!?!?!?

The impression I get is that Chaos was not a real threat during the Crusade. The Imperium as a whole did not really know about it, nor face it.

I know it's not faultless logic, but Chaos were not one of the original "races" of 40K. There were Warp-creatures, but not "Chaos" as a whole. As such, the forces we know as Chaos did not emerge until the Heresy broke out.

The "races" of Rogue Trader, excluding anything that was basically meant to turn up and make the fight a three-way, were as follows:

Imperials (Guard and Marines, with Arbites, Custodes, Inquisitors, Assassins, Abhumans, etc).

Squats / Space Dwarfs.

Eldar*

Orks.

Also mentioned were the Tyranids, Genestealers, Zoats, Ambulls, Grox, Pterra-Squirrels, Vampyres, Warp-Hounds and all manner of deadly plants, animals and Warp-weirdos.

[hr]

* The "Eldar" listed were said to live in Craftworlds, but had little resemblance to the Craftworld Eldar we know today. Indeed, many elements of the Dark Eldar were drawn from the "Pirate" nature of these 1st Edition Eldar. Perhaps the best term for these are "Corsairs" or "Eldritch Raiders". The Eldritch Raider list was, in fact, based upon the versitility available when equipping Eldar Pirates in this book.

So, in short, they're Pirate Eldar, not Craftworld or Dark Kin.

Hmm, sounds like a pretty boring set up... How was it played? Im guessing not like 40k now, because of the lack of 'armies' but was it like inquisitor?

You had rules for "Heroes", for units, and there was a big section on making vehicles / robots. You just cobbled together an "army" using that.

It was really more of an RPG than a wargame. It was even recommended that you use a GM.
