Interesting question. What would tau use for currency? What might they call it? Is there anything in a Black Library book about it? Or are we in uncharted waters?

There is no record of it, but I would guess that they use some form of credited rationing system which includes provision for non-essential purchases and scales with rank and responsibility.

'Credits' sounds like the invention of the Water Caste to me; I say go ahead.

What has that got to do with fascism?

I've another question: do higher ranks get more "credits" or whatever?

I would say it works how the communists worked.

You get your basic rationing of essentials like food, spice, whatever their method of power is, education.

And then you have additional credits, based upon your rank. These things buy little niceties and small luxuries.

Is that how fascist states did it as well? I know that's how communist states did it.

possibly replace "communistic" and "fascistic" with "dictatorship" I've always figured the political spectrum was (in a practical view) like a horse shoe; "communism" and "fascism" on one end respectively, and democracy/republicanism in the middle of the bend or there abouts.

While in a theory, the ideas go on a (mostly) straight line.

And I think that sounds like a good idea, everyone gets X credits guaranteed, and from there add based on rank, contributions, etc.... Not enough that anyone becomes Uber rich, and not too few that anyone is Uber poor.

Right. Communism and Fascism are on opposite ends of the scale, at least in execution (Communism is more of an economic model). Communism is basically one end-member representing leftist political thought, and Fascism is the end member representing conservative political policy. Capitalist Democracy as we usually understand it falls somewhere in the middle, and includes elements of both. Fascism does not innately require rationing in the same manner as a Communist state. It is used only when required, as may be the case even for Capitalist societies in times of war.

The main difference between credited rationing and our modern idea of currency is that nothing you own produces additional wealth. You can not own factories or businesses, and you can not employ workers (although you can still be responsible for managing them). The amount of resources you earn scales with merit and experience, so there is incentive for personal advancement.

I would assume that it scales with rank, though. There wouldn't be any truly rich or poor Tau, but you would definitely see some variety in terms of living arrangements, particularly among the other castes. The Fire Caste likely prefers somewhat spartan quarters, even among the higher ranks.

note: If the Tau really do use this system, they would definitely be close to communism, at least in terms of economics. But at the moment, we don't know for sure. And their political model is definitely not a form of communism.

Well I can't say I have any information about regular Tau society but in the book Kill Team, about Lt. Kage, it talks how Kage and his crew walk into a bar and buy stuff. So I imagine there is some form of normal "money." This may not be used by the regular Tau society though.
