Default Mercenary Forces of 40K

Besides the Kroot, are there any other forces that may act as mercenaries? I know there are some Tau commanders in the Farsight enclaves that will have their forces act as mercenaries, but are there any other forces that will act, or have factions in them that will act as mercenaries?

There are a lot of minor Xenos species that have been described as acting as mercenaries. The Tarellian Dog-soldiers, for one. The Blood Axe clan of Orks are also known for it. And I would guess there are more than a few human mercenary groups operating out on the lawless fringes of the Imperium, where the Imperial Navy makes regular patrols only once or twice in a generation when they come to collect tithes. Those worlds that may have need for alternative forms of protection than what the Imperial Guard and Astartes are willing to provide.

Various Eldar bands have also plied their trade as Mercenaries, such as the infamous Eldar Pirates.

The Dark Eldar have worked as Mercs, but their motives are rarely anything but selfish. Often they will simply turn on their employer once the contract is fulfilled. Likewise, Eldar Pirates are extremely fickle, making them expensive and unreliable to use.

Most races have some sect that works as mercs. 'Nids and Necrons are on of the two who don't obviously but there are human mercenaries, kroot, some trator legions might but they might turn on you and sacrifice you, orks have the blood axes.

I know that it's possible to hire a Rouge Trader for various things. They'd probably count as mercenaries as some have some impressive forces at deposition.

Tarellians and Scythians definitely. And that race....what was that race that got destroyed by the Tyranids because Eldrad deflected a splinter fleet?

Actually, lets just say which races DON'T have mercenaries. And that's Necrons and Tyranids. Aside from that, every race has mercenaries.
