Default A Chaos Fluff Question... Commanding Daemons?

Does a Chaos commander have control over the daemons in his/her service? Once summoned do they follow the orders of battle or just simply unleashed on the enemy?

SPOILER WARNING!!!::::

I know for a fact that in Dark Adeptus that a Chaos commander had the daemons under his direct demand, having defeated them in combat and thus forcing them into slavery.

I'm pretty sure that the only way to controll a daemon is by knowing its true name (or is that just fantasy?)

The idea of a "true name" is a demonology point common to many real religions not just 40K. The idea is, that each demon has a true name in which its power is vested. Use of the true name gives one control over the spirit (i.e. Rumplestilskin ) In most cases, the demons can be subjected an harnessed, i.e. a Chaos Lord striving to contain a demon or an Imperial Inquisitor summoning a demonhost. In almost all cases, demons don't take lightly to being bossed around (either by forces of Chaos or Order) and normally try to get back or get out of their agreement. This is almost always bad news for whoever is being betrayed.

But keep in mind that there is a definate heirarchy to the Chaos world (mostly enforced through strength). Thus every minor and major demon is loyal to their Chaos god. If a Chaos Lord comes along and is a) highly favored by the god and b) capable of subduing demons, then the demons have no choice but to be loyal...untill a more favored or more powerful master comes along.

SPOILER:

Also, there are unconfirmed rumors that certain Imperial forces (Ordo Malleus, Blood Ravens) summon demons in order to study them. This would confirm that there is some ability to bind and control demons in the 40K world.

Nope, there's a Grey Knight wargear selection that has a book of all the Deamon's true names. I think it lowers initiative or something (which is close to controlling, slowing down)

Deamons can be controled by force, bending them to the lords will or knowing teh deamons name.

true- in fact the daemons in service to Horus were not in the service of the 4 Chaos gods but were looking to serve what Horus would have becomed had he consumed the Emperor- a 5th God. Daemons rarely have a single master (like Lucifer and Hell) and are more or less 'free agents' trying to make it to the heaven of reality.

Slaanesh lord... best of both worlds.

Nah, there can be, for reference, the book Farseer, William King. There is a cult leader in it called Justine, who runs the Palace of Pleasure on Medusa (how the Inquisition missed that, I do not know) and she is very high up in the cult of Slaanesh, serving the Harbinger of Slaanesh, Shaaha Gaathon (SP?) himself.

I'm pretty sure it's Shasha Gaathon myself.

There are a few kicking around. Despite the Imperium's best intentions, even the highly faithful Adeptus Soritas can be tricked into worshipping something more malign then the Emperor.

And what would happen if say a female Eldar Farseer became a servant of say Tzeentch? I doubt she'd have the physical power of a Chaos Lord of the Chaos Space Marines, but I should imagine that she'd have the psychic mastery to rival that of even most Tzeentchian Lieutenants and Lords.
