Default Fluffy Reasons to take two commanders...

I've noticed through the year that I have been playing that it is entirely possible to have a army lead by two commanders, for instance, a Sisters army led by two Canonesses, or a Space Marine army led by two Commanders. But I've never been able to think up a really good explanation on why that would make sense.

Do you guys have any ideas?

In larger armies, the army needs more command.

:

Really that simple. Probably a dozen other reasons but here is one.

you could make up an incidental reason... that both of the commanders got stuck in the same fight or something..

Generally the archetype within fantasy and sci-fi is that if a character looks good, then he/she is good, if they're ugly then they're probably evil. (I'm looking at YOU TOLKIEN!!)

Or they're brothers of battle and like to fight together.

Or they might've had to work together but dislike it.

They may simply be needed to lead different attacks in the army. Really there real question, is there a reason to forbid two commanders in the same army?

Not that I can think of, plenty different types of background and fluff can be applied easily.

Yes I know it's easy to come up with fluff, but as I said before, I want really good fluff.

Well would you like me to write some for you?

I can do a short piece. Just need the army's name and name of the commanders. And a very small bit of background.

Maybe they are brothers/sisters? So, maybe they have the bond that they always have to fight together?

Take an expensive leader and make him the elder or senior officer. The other will be a right hand man. Think General Robert E Lee and his most able Stonewall Jackson. All armies should have at least two high ranking officers incase one dies or so they can split their forces.
I use both a librarian and a chaplain in 1500 pts.

For my army I use an 'o and 'el and say that they are married.

Make them twins... or make them like the "Either" and "Or" from the Horus Heresy Books
