Default The SM backpacks.............

What is the point of them. IMO, they are big and cumbersome (espically the CSM ones), but do they actually serve a purpose. I kind of thought of them as a generator for their power armor. But that doesnt seem tactilly sound (1 shot in the back and their screwed). Maybe its just a place for them to store their lunchboxes ^-^? does anyone actually know what they are for?

The backpack holds the power plant for their armour, and looks nifty.

I mean, where else are they gonna put their power source... in their helmets?

The back is one of the safest places to store this sort of thing. You're not going to get that many opportunities to shoot a marine in the back.

I've also heard that they contain extra breathing apparatus (a third lung?). Also, in the case of Devastators, they contain ammunition, power packs or cooling mechanisms for heavy weapons.

The third lung is biological, not tech. I'd also be shocked if they didn't have more ammo or gear in there too.

Basicly contains anything to big to fit in the armour. Stimms, power plant, recyclers, etc. The bulbs on the back are often refered to as exaust vents for heat. In some 40k comics form Black Library have them using them to manouver in zero gravity. In a way that makes sense looking at the packs as there are a number of vents on all sides of them.

In that case, so is sex. Therefore, pornstars and prostitutes are professional athletes.
