Default Where's the Warhammer of 40k??

Most of us should know, that in Warhammer fantasy, the warhammer was carried by Sigmar as he helped kill the Orcs. I was wondering, why do they call it Warhammer 40k??? What does the Warhammer have to do with ANYTHING?? In the fluff, I could find nothing about any powerful warhammers the Imperium used.

It's from the bad old days when the WFB world was said to be in the Eye of Terror.

Its because the intial idea behind 40k was "Let's give all our Warhammer races guns and spaceships and see what happens..."

Essentially it's a brand thing.

We all used to call it 'Warhammer in Space' and that's what it used to be.

Space Marines have thunder hammers, and some people have Daemon Hammers.

The Tau used "The Hammer" to crush a heavily defended outpost on Me'dus'a.

Yup, the Ordo Malleus use the Hammer as their symbol... and they fight Chaos, the iconic (and overdone) enemy.

i also wondered this, i thought it was just that wfb was successful so they names 40k after it. But nowadays most people call it 40k

Like most oldskool gamers, I still squint a little to use or hear the term 'Fantasy'...since I've always simply called it 'Warhammer'. Recently, I've stopped this practice because times are a-changin'...

The only constant in the universe is change. The wise adapt.

But the wise also look at the past as a reference for the future
