Default Is their religion in the year 40k other than the cult imperialis?

I've been wondering about other religions within the imperium that still may have kept it's strength (i.g...christian, jewish, scientology.......well not scientology :P)

"And we shall know fear!"-honored battle cry of the SMs also known as Sissy Marines. The chapter was later declared Worthless Extrimis after crying when shot at by Orks in the chapters first engagment. In the AER (After Execution Review) Inquistor Exter said "It was just breaking my heart to see those grown marines cry."

As far as we know, all modern religions either disappeared or were incorporated into the Imperial Cult well before the current age of the Imperium. The only sanctioned religions in the Imperium are that and the cult of the Machine God. Everything else is either absorbed or eradicated by the Ordo Hereticus. So no, in the dark future of 40k, there is no evidence of any other human religions resembling those we know today. GW never wanted to touch on the issue.

None of the currently existing religions exist in the 40k universe. During the great crusade, the emperor eliminated ALL religions, including the ones that worshipped himn (obviously it didn't stick). Even if Christianity had survived, the crusade would have wiped it out.

Like the worm said during the great crusade the Emperor ruled that there were no religions and spread something called "the Imperial truth." Which effectively erradicated all religions. Some persisted that the Emperor was a god but he resisted that aswell and tried to stop it. In fact it was that position that turned the Word Bearers to chaos, before that they had been spreading the Emperor as a new god on the worlds they conquered but their primarch could not take the change and turned to chaos. Thus the first seeds of heresy were sown but thats another matter.

Obviously once the Emperor was intered within the golden throne and could no longer protest the Imperial Cult sprang up literally overnight taking position of authority and stomping out the Emperors "Imperial truth" and starting the Emperor worship.

However within the Imperial Cult there are so many, many different variations that resemble all kinds of religions its obvious that pretty much every kind of religion will have survived just under the name of the Imperial Cult and worshiping the "Emperor" instead of "God" or what not. Everything from tribal cults to more sophisticated and modern resembling religions can, and probably do exist in the fluff somewhere.

As somewhat old it would have to be anywhere from 20 to 38... thousand years old.

I suppose it is possible. Some Space Marine chapters use a lot of pseudo-Christian imagery (pseudo-crusader, anyway). Most would probably assume that the events described therein are simply another manifestation of the Emperor's power. It takes a lot for Space Marines to drift too far from doctrine.
