Default Exodites

From what I know, they are Eldar who left the craftworlds before the Fall. My question,
Are they ranged fighters, or CC fighters?

I ask becasue I want any Eldar, but preferably Dark, as I want CC, but I want then to be Exodites.

Thanks,
The Mothman

Exodites don't fight. They die. Then, Bien-Tal saves them.

Exodites are actually highly capable fighters, on smaller scales. They could compete with everything up to a determined Imperial assault. Don't forget that they have the Eldar Knight clans backing them up (small Titan walkers), and those can run rings around any Imperial Armoured formation. On an infantry level, the rough jungle terrain of Maiden Worlds always favours a defender, which will invariably be the Eldar.

The Dragon-riders - not to be confused with Eldar Knights, which are like oversized Wraithlords - are the only really well-known unit (other than the aforementioned Knights). Many see them as being 'lances forwards and charge!' types, but I think that's bunk - they'd be much more likely to fight like steppe nomads (Huns, Mongols, Tatars, etc), fighting evasively with ranged weapons until the enemy is weakened, and only then charging in with laser lance. That would suit them much better, both in terms of the Eldar mindset and plain old common sense.

So DE would work best for an Exodite army?

I don't think DE fit well, or Craftworlders either.

See, Exodites are famed for Cavalry, and none of the Eldar lists have much in the way of cavalry units. Warp Beasts for Dark Eldar... and that's it. 40k is light on Cavalry in general, really.

Some people suggest Saim-hann, fielding Jetbikes as Dragon Knights, but to me it just doesn't fit - lizards can't fly, and they certainly aren't as fast as speeding jetbikes using turbo-boost... Pterodactyl mounted Exodites, perhaps.

Perhaps proxying with the Tyranid ruleset would work best. It sounds strange, but they do have some big perks in this context. 'Leaping' fits lance-wielding Cavalry to a tee, IMHO. Hormagaunts upgraded to the nines come closest to actual massed cavalry than anything in the game (other than Rough Riders, which are limited and need a whole IG army behind them anyway...). Larger 'Nid monsters can represent Exodites on bigger dinos, with guns slung on howdahs and what-not. Synapse might take some explaining, but you can always flick together some story about 'spirit chanellers' using the ancestral spirits in the Worldstone (like an infinity circuit) to embolden the warriors.

The idea of using Tyranids is a stroke of genius, I'd never considered that.

Alternatively, you could try one of the unofficial Exodite lists...
(or just look at them and see what existing list fits the bill best).

Mechtau, if you ever saw a picture of a Towering Destroyer knight you wouldn't say that. Its like 10 times the size of a wraithlord. And they have those things in entire clans in the way Titans are in legions. (There's also the bright stallion knight and one other type, but those models are only in Epic as far as I know)
