Default My First Major Project: U.S. Army Codex

I know it might sound a lot like guard, and i dont know if someone else is already working on something like this, but i just had a thought: what if someone took the U.S. military force and converted it over to a playable 40K army?

My plan is to create a codex where you can play something like this. If anyone is willing to create models, then i would be happy.

Make sure you add something like Friendly fire cover! If you roll a 1,2,3 they shot as normal and a 4,5,6 they shoot the closest friendy unit!

Just having a funny brother.

Well... Im doing a codex based on the Endwar game for the Alliance of Tet Krom, so you might find it useful... (Mrast Joint States is the US, Erean Federation is the EU and the Trazch War-republic is Russia)

Mmm...

Thing is, in a galaxy where superhumans use automatic grenade launchers as their main weapon, I'm not sure the U.S army would be all that effective....

6+ at best armor save, S2 weapons except for really heavy weapons, etc...

Really, you could try but if you kept in mind 40k fluff and accuracy when combining the two universes/times, the U.S. Army would be rather...disheartening :P

It's not actually that bad.

I would say nothing better than a 5+, but weapon strength is definitely 3. We've got the same guns (essentially) as autoguns minus some of the fancy bits on some of them.

Tanks are actually fine, seeing how our tank and large artillery would do okay in most situations. Heck AV 10 is described as the front of a Bulldozer, I'm more than willing to bet that our MBT's can keep up with better figures than that.

Really?

Considering that today's standard issue is a Type III?

If you didn't know, Conditioned armor protects against 9.6 g (148 gr) 7.62x51mm NATO M80 ball bullets at a velocity of 847 m/s 9.1 m/s (2780 ft/s 30 ft/s). It also provides protection against the threats mentioned in [Types I, IIA, II, and IIIA].

Or II or II-A

And in the 41st millennium these weapons are just as effective as future weapons we only fantasize about now? And one of our most advanced body armors is just as durable as something made thousands of years in the future with advanced technologies and materials we never even knew existed?

There are also theories of natural selection to remember. In as many years as it takes to equalize the difference between people of now and people of then, the human race would have grown much more in terms of physical ability.

I think I'll butt out before this becomes even more hopeless though.

I think such a codex is doomed to be a worse off guard army.... :-\

There however, several things about fluff which are not implemented into the game,
Orks can rip guardsmen in half with their bare hands, their skin is tough enough to resist bullets, yet they are gunned down so easily? Lasguns burn holes through people, yet they are actually quite ineffective?

Who knows, we may all have died out in a coupla years time?

I considered making a modern-style army, though I didn't limit myself to a single modern force. This kind of project is much better off in "gameplay AWESOME balance" 5th edition than "fluff-ish balance" 4th edition.

My philosophy was to have a fairly basic Codex with some soft armour*, that carried games based on support options - artillery strikes, strategic snipers, gunship support, and the like.

"My snipers will pin that squad."
"Aren't your snipers in Reserve?"
"Yes."

*(if you're going for fluff balance, you're not going to have anything over AV11 or maybe 12. 40k armour is absurd, and I will the shove calculations down the throat of anyone who thinks otherwise).
